it appears to be a bit tricky to swap the items in mk8.
probably because the character already holds the item in their hand..
It definitely is possible:

Also, I tried hacking the lap counter and the player's coins. Both failed the same way; I found addresses that seemed right, but when I changed them, nothing happened. It's almost as if these addresses are copies of the real ones, which are stored in another memory range or something.

Maybe some genius like @crediar will figure it out.

I know this may not be relevant to item swapping in MK8, but I wonder when someone will make a "disable boundaries" code or a "moonjump" code.

Those are my favorite type of codes! I only started with items because I though it would be easier. A no-walls code should be possible also by hacking the course's KCL and replacing it using Cafiine.

Yeah, but sadly, I'm really bad at making codes. Just have a really hard time making my own codes D:

Most Likely all Display Values, the easiest way too look is in 50CC Grand prix and do a scan from their, I assume your getting values starting with 3FB right? (granted your using v4.1)

Some values did start with 3F8 (meaning it's floating point number), but some looked like this:
0x00000008 = Golden Mushroom
0x0000000B = Bullet
etc...

I am using MK8 v4.0. How can I get v4.1 without updating the whole system and destroying it's exploitableness?
I've attempted to create these codes all on a 2 player 150cc VS. (Toad Harbor to be exact.) What makes 50CC Grand Prix easier?

Just wait for the version spoofer to come out, then you can update Mario Kart 8 without actually updating the Wii U. And my Mario Kart 8 is also at v4.0.

Assuming you poking The 0x000000B and etc and no result then it's is simply the items Display ID Location, but not the actual location afaik, as for its float you may still need to find its pointer, also your going to have to wait for the fw spoofer (assuming it has nus privileges) to get v4.1.
What makes 50CC easier that i do not know personally but have been told by 3 people it does, so in short i can't answer that sorry.

I didn't just poke the 0x0000000B values, I poked ALL the values that came out of the unknown value search. All that happened is the item picture changed.
Are you saying that the real item value keeps getting re-allocated and that's why I can't find it? If so, how can I find it.

Curious, have you made any codes yet? Just wondering.

item picture change = Display Value, and it doesn't keep re-allocating just means your closer :3

If the actual item value address isn't being re-allocated, then why doesn't the unknown value search find it?
Well i know after you start a new race you have restart the entire scan as people told me so maybe, i might just be being stupid atm and getting shit mixed up ._. but if i remember correctly the same thing was for mk7 it took a while but eventually its a lot easier to dump the ram and use cheat engine to find its pointers and locations ( how mk7 was found)

That's because when you restart the race, all the player data structures are re-allocated, which renders previous searches useless. That may also happen every time a player gets an item. Maybe an ASM hack might work, if that is the case?

Lets say I was trying to find an unlimited item code, say "infinite mushrooms" then what would be the values I use to find the "mushroom"?

I don't know. The display code for a single mushroom is 0x00000007 I think. (Although I may not remember right.) However, that may not be the value for "single mushroom" at the actual item's address.
