You guys helped me out last time in choosing the Cyclo (way back in Feb?), now I need help again. My brother wants to know what flash card is best for a young girl.
Use? Games
Price Range? Not sure how much they are nowadays, but $20-50?
Slot 1/2? 1
Built in or expandable memory? SDHC isn't necessary
GBA compatibility? Also not necessary
Special features? Good game compatibility-- I'm not sure what the girl is going to play on her DS, but Disney games is probably around her street.
Any flashcarts you are looking at in particular I'm out of the loop, but AceKard2 and EDGE look like good purchases. M3, R4, and EZ-Flash are in the lower tier.
Other: Should have a user-friendly UI, customizable skins is a plus

Thanks guys.

Use?
Mostly for Roms, apps, and multimedia.

Price Range?
Less than $15 , Preferred cheaper. DealExtreme.

Any flashcarts you are looking at in particular
Better than R4

Special features:
No patching require for games. For example Arm7 Patching. All WireLess Compatable. Good Quality of Gaming, make it look like a real game. Customizable Skin.

Other?
MicroSD/SDHC Support, Easy Update. Easy to use no confusion.

Slot 2:

Support slot-2 GBA?
Support slot-2 rumble packs?
Support slot-2 RAM (web browser)?
Supports expansion pack or its own memory?

Hmmm, I guess this is getting repetitive, AceKard 2
Yeah that's why I just told all 3 of them to get an Acekard in one sentence. I mean if you don't plan to give your card to a year old or throw it against a wall. Acekard is the best and cheapest of the "basic" cards.
I think for detailed explainations as to why they just have to go back two pages in this thread and find the answer about 3 times.

QUOTEFrankly if you focus on music and video, all flashcarts perform the same because they all use Moonshell (yea I know there are alternatives, but you won't use em).
Why not? I love Sakura on my Cyclo. o.O

Use? Games
Price Range? Cheap
Slot 1/2? slot 1
Built in or expandable memory? MicroSD
Other? Undecided between Supercard DS One and Acekard 2
Support slot-2 GBA? Don't Care
Support slot-2 rumble packs? Nope
Support slot-2 RAM (web browser)? Nope

From the history I'm sure Acekard 2 is the one that is going to be suggested :-P But the anytime save feature would be nice on the Supercard DS One (But the save feature isn't a must)

Thanks!

PharaohsVizierThere is nothing that could make a cart look like a real game. There aren't any 1:1 flash carts, there are 1:1 fake carts but no flash carts. As for the price range, you can definitely get DSTT, AceKard 2 and perhaps the EDGE is a stretch. Either way, the best cart in that category is the AceKard 2. It is so incredibly cheap and it functions just as well as carts that are priced higher.

I don't Specifically didn't meant that It really has to look real but yeah, I have many links to many of flash card but I just found out about the M3 and it has rumble pack , memory pack and the support of SDHC. Thanks for your help, it really helped me.

Use?
Games, MP3 Player
Price Range?
Cheapest Possible Because it is for Kids (Ages 5-10)
Slot 1/2?
Slot 1
Built in or expandable memory?
Expandable
Special features?
Easy to work with, but I know they all look pretty basic (I will be setting them all up for the kids, but I am hoping they can change the Music and whatnot)
Any flashcarts you are looking at in particular
R4DS
Other?
Cheap Cheap Cheap. I am getting at least 5 of them so the kids can use their DS as an MP3 player too (Plus I am already spending $700 on DS's) lolz

For all slot-1's (ignore if you want a slot-2):
Support slot-2 GBA?
Doesn't Matter
Support slot-2 rumble packs?
Doesn't Matter
Support slot-2 RAM (web browser)?
Doesn't Matter, as long as I can load on a Homebrew Browser

An Edge for you. It has a simple easy to use menu and first of all it has very strong hardware. If it wasn't for kids I would say Acekard2, but that would probably broken within two days...

Thanks, here is my counter....

Realhotstuff (http://www.realhotstuff.com/r4ds-microsd-bundle-p-184.html)
has R4DS's WITH 2GB cards for $20.... lolz
If I got a card that supports SDHC, I would want at least 4GB cards... I can find them for about $10 each, but the cost on this for all the kids is already pushing it...
Is SDHC/Simple menu the only reason you would suggest this card?

EDIT:
Ok, looking at some other sites... Maybe I could find some 4GB cards for cheap (I can get some $9 Micros right now, I can prolly get them cheaper if I wait)
Gameyeeeah (http://www.gameyeeeah.com/r4-iii-upgrade-sdhc-revolution-for-ds-p-803.html) has R4DS III's for pretty cheap too...

R4 hasn't been updatet in about a year. If you are fine with new games not working go ahead and buy it.
Do yourself a favor and get an Edge: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10919

QUOTE(PharaohsVizier @ Dec 4 2008, 09:52 PM)
I second the EDGE, and if you happen to really want a cheap deal seeing as it looks like it, your kids might settle for DSTTs on DX right now, kind of crappy, apparently the build has gone down since I last got one, but definitely better than R4s
Thanks guys, definatly glad I asked. Would rather get something that is still supported than something out-dated....
I will just search for some cheap **MICRO**-SDs... Got a month of X-mas specials to get it.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.
