James Riley, the creator of the the FMV game "Night Trap" and the exclusive holder of the rights to the title appears to be interested in re-releasing it in the nearby future. These plans were revealed on a fan page dedicated to the game.
James Riley said:"I do plan to re-release Night Trap and have been talking with a number of interested parties to do so, however, the specific platform(s) have not been confirmed (including online) and I will let you know once we have a definite plan and release schedule. (...) Night Trap will come back, in better resolution and game play than before, we just want to be sure it's the best strategy for all involved."
Why should you care? "Night Trap" is one of the titles responsible for the creation of the ESRB, the video game rating board. Back in 1996, the game was actually removed from Toys 'R Us and F.A.O Schwartz store shelves. Night Trap was called anything from "shameful" to "sick" and was believed to "encourage efforts to trap and kill women" despite the fact that the objective of the game is the exact opposite. Yes, kids - this was considered to be the pinnacle of video game violence and adult material. It's considered to be a classic in the FMV games genre (not that there's a lot of contenders for the price) and perhaps we'll get to enjoy it again, this time in glorious high definition...
Sound the Next Gen alarm, the second era of FMV games is coming!
