If you installed a9lh with the otpless method (new 3ds only), did you brick your New 3ds?

  • Yes (please give details of your tragedy below if you're up to it).

I'm going to wait a bit before I ditch my SD card dependency. Granted, I hate having such a delicate file on my SD card, but I have backups made, and will wait this out until the dust settles before I go A9LH v2.
A9lh v2 has been out for ages and isn't sdless a9lh. Hell if you installed a9lh around July(maybe a bit before) you already have v2. Otpless a9lh is just a way of installing a9lh, you still need the bin file. Also the sdless a9lh still needs the bin as the built in Cfw is a bare bones Cfw meant as a fallback not for everyday use.

I installed it in April, when 10.7 was the newest firmware. So unless Nintendo breaks it for me, I'll just stick with v1 for now.

Pretty sure that may not happen at all.

What's more likely to happen is A9LH payloads that get big enough that you'll need to update to v2 A9LH.

Did it with one of the my own n3DS XLes and also did it for one of my clients. (OTPLess Installs.) Nothing went wrong - except for my own microSD card failing and it being discovered when the system couldn't read the DSiWare downgrade firmware.

I can confirm :

10 New Nintendo 3DS XL RED
10 New Nintendo 3DS XL Black
(Codes QW1181, 1182, 1183,1185 )

All DSiWare Downgrade, downgrade to 9.2 and then apply OPTLESS with Safe version.

6 New Nintendo 3DS XL Monster Hunter.
(Codes QW1156,1157)
This model was directly with downgrade to 9.2 since its come with 10.7
we used it to DSi downgrade.

And some 3DS XL and 2DS from owner shop.

No bricks.

26 successfully OTPLESS in one shot

I used a original 16GB microSD sandisk for process. was about 10 different microSD card. Brand New.

Also i did some client DSIdowngrade and OTP less. Was about 4 client and more to come.

protip @zoogie if you want to make a serious thread and want serious answers, don't give stupid a change..
i mean, including the cat option on the poll, was a bad idea IMO....

Wait, how did a deleted member like your post, made three minutes ago?
I don't know but I'm scared. :ohnoes:

Ontopic, kind of wish this was here a little earlier since I only did A9LH like a few weeks ago. Seems neat that the downgrade for N3DS is no longer required.

well so far only 2 votes for bricks and theese 2 votes didn't post their experience here....
and for the people that admit they bricked the console because their error (like faulty sd cards, or put console to sleep)
i give you a good samaritan point for not blaming the tools...

I've been wondering, what would a bootrom exploit allow people to do?

Sent from my Iphone 7 Plus with 256 GB (Jet Black).
Dumping bootrom would give us a bunch of keys that we don't have yet and would let us decrypt and encrypt games on the computer without a console. It will also give us additional information about how CTRCert is generated.

An exploit in the bootrom would let us get code execution at the very earliest stages of the boot process, and it would be impossible to patch the exploit without a new hardware revision.

I just did an otpless install this afternoon, no problem at all, it's really easy as f*** and fast ! All went smoothly

well i have fixed one system that was bricked during the OTPless a9lh and the SD card was genuine, after unbricking the system i ran the same build of safea9lhinstaller as was on the SD card and it worked that time, im assuming that it was using the older version before the SD card initialization update, so it may have been down to that bug.

Well personally i had successfully installed with otpless in 5 consoles, but a friend of a friend, yesterday aak fo my helicopter because he brick his new xl the galaxy new edition)

Edit: just read the helicopter thing it was autocorrect, way to funny to edit now!!, he asked for my help**

After prwsing select on a9lh installer v 2.5 with al the right files (i have checked them afterwards), the console just went blackscreen, with power led on, after doesnt boot with or without sd, recovery doesnt work, nothing does.

As i stated, i checked the hash of the files he used, and according to him, he also used the stock sd card which i dont think it may be faulty.

He refused to post about it for some reason, (he's kinda weird) but whatevs...

If this is a bug in otpless install i'll stick with old 2.1 crt transfer for the new 3ds, until we know more about it.

Done OTPless on a Super Mario 3D Land bundle N3DS yesterday (using ninjhax as entrypoint to HBL), actually got error screen once while downgrading to 9.2, other than that it was flawless and fast.

this whole thing feels like the old gateway brick stuff, where the argument was "well i didn't get bricked, so that means that the people who did brick caused it themselves by having a crap SD card or pulling the battery out while its installing"........rather than actually trying to find out more info they would prefer to sweep it under the rug and blame the user, so its no wonder your friend wouldn't want to post

having spoke with aurora wright yesterday about the bricked console i received to unbrick, based on how aurora explained how the otpless method works, it copies key1 to key2 in the keystore, performs a soft reset, does some *magic* then installs a new key2 that is the proper a9lh install, now from what i seen on the bricked system i had hold of the console crapped out between copying official key1 to key2 before it could insert the proper a9lh keyslot, so on the bricked nand i dumped key1 and key2 were the same resulting in a bricked system

so if you can just confirm what version of safea9lhinstaller was being used as apparently the bug that could cause this is supposed to already be fixed in the latest build

and if your friend has a nand backup then he should be fine to recover the system via a hardmod

apearantly he used the 2.5 installer instead of 2.5.1, but. i thing he also use the arm9payloads from before the update 7 days ago, so chances are thats what did the brick, and he doesnt have a nand backup, i dont remember if plailect guide recommends doing a nand backup before installing optless, but if it doesnt, it should.

is there any other way to unbrick it with a hardmod, fixing whatever the error broke?, and with the latest versions of the installer and the payloads, is there no longer any chances of brick?

It does make you do a NAND backup. Part 1. If someone decides to skip it, that's on them if shyt goes wrong.
