It really depends on the VPN provider. To your second question, it also depends on your VPN provider, however most providers allow for just certain devices, for example I can use my VPN on a phone, pc, android tv etc, however I can't use it on my Nintendo Switch (Nintendo hates piracy that much).

I don't know what's good. I don't mind shelling out a few bucks. my usenet is about $4 a month as I got astraweb on a sale for that much for life. it's normally $8 a month.

I have an nvidia shield like I think you said you had and it worked, as well as several systems and pcs. it sucks that it doesn't work with the switch. I don't pirate on the system, but I'm trying to protect my security, not yours, Nintendo.

i also don't pirate nearly as much as i used to, so they're totally useless to me to begin with
Well, let me tell you a story. If you do homebrew your IP address is exposed. When the first explot for the PS3 came out, the court allowed Sony to see the IP address of all the ones who watched that video, meaning unless they used a VPN they could get fined or at least tracked to make sure they don't do it

Well, if you use android on the switch you can technically launch a VPN that way. Xbox does it, why can't Nintendo?

For some reason, YouTube and Amazon give HSTS errors unless i connect with HolaVPN, so i use it whenever i want to access those, it's only with Hola though, i tried ProtonVPN and it didn't work, any other VPN is paid so i havent tried them, can't afford Hola pro so i cant use YT on pc too much, a Windows reinstall would probably solve it, but i don't have the space to do so

FREE FOR ME.

Free VPNs more often than not sell your information. Nothing is *truly* free about it. I only spend $40 a year on my VPN, Private Internet Access. They give you up to 5 devices (at a time), which is plenty for a techie nerd bitch like me. I have a friend that uses one, and that leaves me 4, but I typically only use 2 at a time (phone and PC). I just highly suggest you get a paid VPN, the benefits are worth it. I think ExpressVPN is even cheaper, if I remember right.

Yes.

The UK has the snoopers charter, so ISPs have to log and store connection records for 12 months and the list of goverment agencies that can request a look was basically everyone and their dog.

VPN could be logging despite claims of no logs, but at least here it's "maybe" vs 100% are.

Then on top of that you have nonsense like Streamable's content servers being blocked when Premier League is on (if you are on one of the big isps) because people upload the goals there because the Premier League refuse to offer a legit alternative for the service people want (3pm goals and games).

Yes! It's more a "keep my ISP off my back", then it is a "security" thing for me. Was warned once already, and got a VPN next day. I use IP Vanish. $89 a year

$$$ NordVPN is prettymuch top-tier, and a bit overkill for most average users.

$$ Private Internet Access is a good middle ground.

$ ExpressVPN is a good cheap solution with still enough benefits over a free VPN to make the purchase worth-while.

I'm on nord for $89/2 years. is that a good deal? how do I activate the vpn after I purchase it?

I have such things if I need to be anonymous, appear from another country or use internet out in the world such that it matters.

As a general thing for the everyday person that does not need those. Pointless and I will happily take up the argument against normal people getting one. They offer no real benefit to them, come with the hassle of slowdowns and cost. Only reason they got popular is because server companies got massive fat pipes and needed to flog some of that otherwise wasted bandwidth when nobody is buying stuff at 2 in the morning.

the more i see youtubers shilling out vpns like nordvpn and expressvpn the less inclined i am to actually use one
it's one of those things, the more you pester me to do something, the less i want to do that thing
In case you were unaware

I torrented some Final Fantasy 8 ISOs, and got a letter in the mail two days later from my ISP that SquareEnix complained. Bunch of butt-hurt little bitches at Squeenix... It's not like they haven't been milking the half-assed ports of FF8 TO DEATH, and I own the physical discs. I just want to dig them out, rip them, convert formats, etc...

Yeah, that's not bad. You download their VPN client, and install it. Then you sign into it, and pick a server that's close to you. That's pretty-much it.

Same with me, I torrented something, can't remember now what it was, a movie I think, but got a letter from AT&T warning me....
