ROM Hack Pokemon Black Losing Save Data

My pkmn black rom keep losing my saves after hours of gameplay. i use an acekard 2i on a dsi. aren't those supposed to be protected from loss of save data? what causes this to happen? i'll still have my game, just at a point way back from where i last saved.
