Students taking the HSC English exam attacked the author of a poem that was featured in the exam. One of them made a meme with a picture of a chimp with a typewriter with the caption "leaked picture of the author of Mango" and others sent her messages full of abuse demanding that she explain her poem and complaining that a four-year-old could have written it.

The author happens to be aboriginal, but the students did not know that at the time. Therefore, the media is portraying it as a racist incident. The chimp meme is obviously referring to "1000 monkeys on 1000 typewriters could eventually write Shakespeare" but the media are portraying it as the students comparing an aboriginal person to a monkey.

Here is the poem

The HSC is a series of exams that gives New South Wales year 12 students their score that they use for university entrance purposes.

I still can't figure out what makes this a poem.
Where I come from, poems are much, much different than this.

Anyway, people are addicted to this kind of drama.
Unless a problem they could complain about is caused, they'll start accusing others for the cheer heck of it.

The media are hysteria-mongering idiots again. That said, I've seen multiple articles and only very few are claiming racism, most are just decrying the fact students are insulting (or rather "insulting", because all of them are yet to post an actually insulting message, post or tweet from the students) the author over the (arguably) nonsensical poem. Fucking overblown bullshit.

Apropos of nothing, this is the author.

Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh
"Journalists" be "journalists",
gotta make it to the payday,
get some clicks from whatever,
look racism is a trending,
and copypasta is just better,
than coming up with something legit,
wanna go home early and watch some Netflix.
- Written by some monkeys

- They happen to be cousins of the monkeys writing "news"

You know I might just drop all social media by the end of the year. I just can't deal with this much longer.
Avoid the shitheads and just use social media for the content you wanna see (like r/CrackWatch, but you didn't hear me say that).

Make a racist joke about a minority, it's just a joke. Make a racist joke about a white dude, and you suddenly become unpatriotic, un-christian, and even called racist.

Fucking lmao.
That’s one terrible poem
That's not the point. Stop trying to change the main subject here.

Anyone who takes jokes like these seriously are pansies
The poem is terrible nonetheless and how am I changing the subject? Kinda pathetic how it gets put on an exam paper unlike other great poets like WB Yeats and many others

For the sake of logic, people are entitled to their opinions little snowflakes.
If someone thinks the poem is such a PoS that a couple of monkey could have come up with it, it is their fucking opinion.
If the writer happens to be aboriginal, Vietnamese, an extraterrestrial or Donald J. Trump, I couldn't give less of a fuck, if I think it is BS and I want to say it is BS I will say it is BS based on what I read, to be racist would be to do the opposite (being careful of not saying it is BS based on the race of the writer).

We're well past that and on to the normalization of racism/bigotry/homophobia under Trump. Hell, we're on to hating gold star families because they talked back to the retarded orange.

It's still political correctness, it's just right-wing political correctness now. AKA you better support the republican president no matter what and support all wars he starts as well.

you get that, if these students were, in any capacity, decent people, they wouldn't have done this either way, right?

saying they didn't know doesn't really make this incident any better.

not knowing that the guy you just farted at during a liftride happens to be the head of HR doesn't change that you're prolly getting fired for that shit

Not to mention those are the same people who say day-to-day racism is a myth until someone uses the phrase "cracker".

Every year the authors of writing featured on year 12 English exams in Australia get harassed. It happened when I did year 12.
