Students taking the HSC English exam attacked the author of a poem that was featured in the exam. One of them made a meme with a picture of a chimp with a typewriter with the caption "leaked picture of the author of Mango" and others sent her messages full of abuse demanding that she explain her poem and complaining that a four-year-old could have written it.
The author happens to be aboriginal, but the students did not know that at the time. Therefore, the media is portraying it as a racist incident. The chimp meme is obviously referring to "1000 monkeys on 1000 typewriters could eventually write Shakespeare" but the media are portraying it as the students comparing an aboriginal person to a monkey.
Here is the poem
And here is the chimp meme
The HSC is a series of exams that gives New South Wales year 12 students their score that they use for university entrance purposes.
