Would this be possible once the Wii U gets hacked? Is the Wii U even powerful enough to emulate PS2? I want to backup all my ps2 games. And I'd love to play kingdom hearts 2 final mix. I tried doing this on my ps2 with internal hard drive method, but it didn't work for me. I ended up wasting $60.

So what are the chances of this happening?

But it can emulate gamecube with devolution. Which was slightly more powerful than the playstation 2.
Which it emulates because the Wii has a chipset with same/similar/equivalent instruction sets as the Gamecube, which are completely different from the PS2 hardware.

Devolution is not an emulator. It is more of a virtual machine.

That being said, I would guess that it is highly unlikely that the Wii U would be able to emulate the PlayStation 2...at least not in a playable manner.

As said, Devolution is not an emulator. A Wii is an upgraded Gamecube, Devolution is just a different "fallback" method.

The Wii U is not very powerful as far as the CPU is concerned.

EDIT: Also, PS2 works just fine on the PC if you don't have old hardware, it's come a long way.

That it has, I can run many PS2 games just fine. As long as people don't have an old AMD or Intel CPU with an Intel HD 2000, they should be fine. As for the Wii U CPU, it's not worse than the Xbox 360's.

I played through Kingdom Hearts 1 + 2 a while ago on a Q8400 with an HD 5770, I assume more recent versions of the emulator have gotten even better.

Version 1.0 gets a lot of the previous bugs fixed, and games work better than before. If you have a multi-core CPU, enabling the MTVU hack boosts the speed even more.
