Hacking Playing Metal Slug 7 on M3DS Simply

Hi, I've been trying to play the Japanese version of Metal Slug 7 on my M3 DS Simply and cannot get it to run

Regardless of whether I patch it to English or just try it unpatched it comes up with that "unable to access save data" message.

Anyone else able to get it working or have any ideas?

The latest firmware shouldn't have any problems.
