Hacking Piracy and Guilt

I feel no guilt what so ever... Let's see I have a N64 w/ 10 games and all 4 controlers, a gamecube with 21 games, 3 controlers, and 2 bongo controlers, 1 ds lite, with 6 real games.... No I think I've paid Nintendo anof money for a life time cupon of free games, aka piracy!

I've been into emulation for 8 years, now I'm 14 and I've think I have over paid my dues. I don't feel guilt for copying some "high and mighty" bastards games. Shure there loseing money because your not paying. But it's not like your actualy taking away money to copy somthing.

Get used to it! It's life! This is realy the only thing I don't think is wrong. Especialy if your getting the game before it's out in stores, getting a rare game, or downloading a game from other contreys!

What if the only reason you actually pirate games if because they are there to pirate and if the games were up for offer in the first place to buy you would never even buy them because you never had the money!

Whether or not you worry about killing Nintendo they can survive piracy because they make a profit on their systems.

But thats no need to say that your not making somebody's life hard but most people ( the none tech savvy ones) will not take part in piracy until near the end of the consoles life. The question is how many people at this point are actually using flash cards and wii mod chips?

I spend a lot of money on games. If I didn't use flash carts/etc. I might buy an extra 1 or 2 games a year, but it's never concerned me as about the same amount of my cash goes to game companies regardless.

Game piracy is no where near as damaging to the game industry (at least for consoles) as mp3s are to the music industry, or dvd-rips (or fansubs...) are to the video industry. But the fact is we live in an age of easy digital distribution, and digital media is only going to get easier and faster to share in the future. Many of our current laws will likely either change or go obsolete. Companies are going to have to adapt, but of course there will be casualties alaong the way.

Such is business. I might feel sorry for the arcade owners who lost their livelyhood as technology changed and consoles made arcade machines obsolete, but change happens anyway. By the nature of consoles, they constantly change every few years. If mod chips do start to really pose a threat to the industry, just don't be surprised if starting up all your games becomes like installing Half-Life 2 when online distribution becomes the standard (which it will).

Yes, I do feel guilty. Anyone thinking they aren't doing something intrinsically wrong here are deluding themselves. Developers worked hard to produce these titles and you should feel at least a pang of guilt if you're downloading everything. Do whatever you need to do to look at yourself in the mirror, for me its accepting that I am taking some profits away from hard working developers. But on the flip side I pay for alot of titles too. Its when you see posts like that little brats up there that make you really upset. Its this attitude of ENTITLEMENT that makes the world a pretty annoying place sometime.

Yes I download pirated content, yes I use it, I have sinned against nintendo. Life goes on. I bought the hardware and were nintendo to introduce some method of downloading and compiling content legally I'd be right there as I was with the virtual console for old SNES and N64 games and iTunes with music. Tactile media is dead, the market wants what it wants, and you need to meet your consumers half way.

And also, theres alot of games I have downloaded that if I had payed for I would've been PISSED.

You act like games sustain your life. You don't have to play games at all, yet you seem to think you are entitled to free things just because you buy stuff. Only people who download digital content think this way. You can't go to one restaurant for twenty years and then just expect to eat free every time after that just because you've bought so much. No guilt if I cannot even buy most of the games in shops here... for an extreme example see Wario Ware twisted, which I'd like. Been out in Jap/US for ages.

On the other hand, I have spent thousands and thousands in games, and buy everything where I honor the creators.

I totally agree.

Like most of us, I've downloaded plenty of roms/mp3s/fansubs/etc., but when someone gets it into their head that game companies (or "society" in general) OWE them something more than what they've paid for, it just makes me sick. This Marxist attitude of entitlement is disgusting.

What's more, many times these immature individuals will get it into their heads that they are the enlightened, elite geniuses of society; and then feel the need to insult people who pay for games (or other pirateable media), calling them stupid for spending money on what they could obtain illegally. These people usually hate to be preached to, and yet are the first ones to pontificate and deride others who happen to live by different norms. Pathetic.

No way dude! It's time to TAKE BACK THE POWER! Show 'em who's boss. They've been dicks for so many years, charging too much money for games, making (yeah that's right, MAKING us) buy these games over and over. Now it is your turn to show what a hypocrite you are!

On a side note, yes it's mostly the entitlement. I don't mind so much the people that don't have the money, or the availability. It's the one's who try to justify it by telling us how much they used to buy or whatever. Don't try to justify piracy, just do it if you want to, but let's get off the cross ok?
