I'd feel guilty if I didn't buy a flashcart. All those games, all those homebrew apps! I've been supporting Nintendo ever since I was a kid (and didn't know about hax). Now, I'm an informed individual, and I feel like the [smaller] flashcart companies need my support now more than Nintendo.

Not feelin too much guilt at the moment. I realized after getting the R4 that most of the games I wanted to play I already own. Although it'll definitely affect my shopping habits in the coming months.

why should i feel guilty, we are dealing with corporations. Its in my best interest to save my money, so i bought a flashcart. I think thats why everyone else bought one.

I usually try to buy as many games as I can. I just love the boxes they come in. The nice shiny paper, the manual, the actual card. I just bought Diddy Kong Racing DS today and still want to get Lunar Knights.

I know it'll never ever ever (ever) happen, but wouldn't it be nice if Nintendo put out demo roms you could download. Y'know, hook your DS to your Wii and download something you could play for a few times before it kablooeyed.
Yeah, ok, back to reality.
Right now I've got no money, so I play what I got on carts, and thank my lucky stars that homebrew is dealin' out some sweetness.

I'd put money on that happening mrth

I don't feel guilty about piracy as such. But I do think of the poor developers that now even get less money. I'm not 'unaware' of their situation if that makes sense.

The thing is, piracy exists because there is a demand for a different business model. A different way to play / buy / receive games and all digital content. I don't feel guilty about being part of the driving force for the upcoming digital revolution

an easy cop out to claim you don't steal other's work.

listen i'm not trying to judge, but i do have to put a foot in when a person tries to justify stealing games by claiming a need for digital content flow. that's bullshit. i'm sorry, opium, i have respect for alot of stuff you say, but on this one i'm going to have to disagree with you.

look if someone wants to download a game for free that's their choice, and while i might not agree with that, it's their choice. I do, however, hope that they at the least realize what they are doing and not belittle it for what it is, because when you start lieing to yourself about what you do you look back in two years and your stealing alot more than just games.

in my opinion i dont agree with many prices and with many shitty titles being puchedo out on the video game market today, however, i think it really does harm those who sacrafice alot making these games (the coders and programmers) who work for crappy money and get the wage cut or loose the job on poor sales due to piracy. I really wish things were different, i do. But that's how the big ones work like EA and Ubisoft.

I feel better that while I may download handheld titles, I'm buying their console titles. Not justifying it. I simply can't. But it's true.

Unless it's a copy of windows that my key has stopped working for or the disk itself CAME damaged. Then I feel no remorse what-so-ever.

Actually, who am I kidding. I feel no remorse regardless when it comes to Windows.

It probably didn't sound to good the way I said it, but I don't believe piracy and stealing games is a good thing. It's still stealing no matter what else you say.

But I do firmly believe in a complete rethink of current business models. It's already starting to happen. I know piracy is not a good thing but it is bringing about this change and I'm really looking forward to that change and I support it. The main driving force of this business rethink is piracy. I did a paper on the subject. The world is still trying to apply old copyright laws to digital content. But the thing is digital content is fundamentally different to physical purchases. There are actually emerging models out there where businesses can still make their money and people can play with and manipulate their digital content.

I think I'll elaborate further..

For games like Qwak, where it was made by one guy, and all he wants is people to play his game, so much that he only hopes to break even and doesn't care for a profit.
I buy the game regardless if its any good or not, because he put his blood sweat and tears into it and just wants people to play it.

but for developers like EA etc, they hardly care about people playing their games and would hate to just break even.

still, I've bought the EA games I want to support. It's just a matter of speaking with your wallet, sure some developers don't need the money, but some do.

I don't feel guilty about pirating. But then again I do. Why buy some shitty title for 30 dollars? It's unfair, it's a rip-off. But I do feel bad about good games, like Elite Beat Agents. If I could buy the games I wanted, I would. But I can't due to most of their prices. Its more of a money-saver to pirate. And if I do have an extra 30 bucks, I'll buy the new Pokemon game!

You know, I don't feel guilty when I pirate games. Its when one of these threads comes along that makes me really think about what our world has come to, that makes me depressed.

I feel absolutely nothing until I start reading comments like all of these and talks of ethics and all that shit. It really makes me second guess my choices.

I have similar views to the majority here.

play variety of games on flashcart.
buy the games you love.

also i only just got a job, so even if i didn't have a flashcart, i wouldn't have been able to afford any games.

One things for sure. I don't think any delevopers who produce junk like "barbie doll oh i love her" without any effort just to feed of the popularity of the subject in question. (just an example) deserves any money.

Personally, I don't understand how so many people here rationalize their actions when, under the law, what they're doing is illegal. Just because something is expensive doesn't give you the right to steal it. You don't see people taking brand new Ferrari's and driving away with them without paying because they disagree with the manufacturer's high retail price. Sure, you can test drive a car just like you say you 'test drive' the games that you download, but how far do you take that drive. The employees at the dealership allow you to see how the car drives, but you must also ask their permission before doing so and are supervised the entire time. The makers of these games are not giving you permission to take their work, try it out on an honor system, and then buy it later if you feel like it. If everyone did this, they would make no money except for people who like to throw money away at things.

I'm here because I like the people and discussions at the board, but I don't and will never understand how so many of you are such rampant pirates. I'll continue staying away from 'ROM's and the whole 'piracy' scene and will instead purchase the games that I want to play, the way it was meant to be.

Maybe it's just me.

I personally have no guilt. They all have more money than me, they sell the games for an exaggerated profit, and I truly could care less if the developer sees my share of his earnings. I do care for indie developers and such though, if I find a game that it good from a developer I never heard of, I want them to bring more games here, so I usually buy games like that. Other games from EA, Squeenix and such get so many buys, that I don't really care, nor do I think they do, if they get my $40 out of the billions and billions thier games will make.
