I agree with Glacius0. Follow the tutorial. Even if it takes you a few tries, it is totally worth it.
Having said that...WOW indeed! This game is amazingly addictive. I just started playing it about an hour ago, but I can tell I'll be playing it for a while.
By the way, is there a difference between the European and American versions?

That's a great feature! This should've been included in Picross DS! Maybe there could be one of these in the end of each level, so we could check some higher resolution pictures every once in a while....So you have to solve one puzzle for the bottom-left, then one for bottom-right, top-left, top-right and THEN you have completed the puzzle...

It's a nice diversion, but way, way over-hyped. IGN's Craig Harris is too easily amused.
Try button mode for 5 minutes. Maybe you'll like it.I'm not fond of the later puzzles that you can't see the whole board on screen at once.
I did and forever stuck with button controls.
What's the name of the Japanese DS version? It's a nice diversion, but way, way over-hyped. IGN's Craig Harris is too easily amused.
Way overhyped? Are you serious? One guy getting excited over it is not over-hype. This game is almost unheard of to most people. This is the first picross game Nintendo has released in the U.S. since Mario's Picross for Gameboy.
As for me, I played the japanese release almost to the end. Then the euro release came out, and the save didn't quite work right with it (normal and free mode progress would be switched). Now that it's out here in the U.S., I actually bought it. I want to support them actually releasing it here. I love these games.
Also, try the SNES versions (Picross Volumes 1-8). Those are very nice, and full of puzzles.
