Hardware Pendrive as main storage

I've been wondering: how poor of an idea is it to use flash memory as the main storage in the Wii U? I've read that, due to the intense read/write operations, the lifespan of the pendrive will be reduced, but by how much? The form factor of those thumbstick drives is very interesting for a more minimalistic setup, after all.

Very fast like a day at most many have killed drives just like that

This is true, but I'm not sure if mine is a freak of nature atp but I've been using a pen drive almost daily for 4 years now on Wii U and it's health cycle has been barely impacted

It depends on the drive, really. Flash memory has a fixed number of reads and writes before you get bad blocks.
The wiiU is mostly reading games (you can't write to a WiiU game disc after all).

I'm using a SATA to USB adaptor with a SSD on my Wii U: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sabrent-2-...ed-EC-SSHD-USB-3-0-SSD-SATA-2-5/dp/B011M8YACM.

The advantage of that is the Wii U can power the SSD from one usb port, the same as a USB memory stick.

Handy as I also have a USB to Ethernet adaptor in the other back USB port and the GameCube Controller Adapter in both the front USB ports.

Maybe some "Clarity" for the Pen Drive Story:

It is not the "bad" Pen Drive itself.
When it comes to Write Cycles,the Pen / Flash / Thumb Drive CAN stop responding / working / failing.
Also depending which File System you have used:

- WBFS (not really the best Choice)
- FAT32 and NTFS -> ok

- Wii U´s File format -> ok

Of course you can use Pen / Flash / Thumb Drives for the Wii / Wii U / vWii.
But it is not the most reliable Solution.
