OTP Guide

Full Guide Release!

https://plailect.github.io/OTP/

All regions now supported!

If you appreciate this guide and the work I put into maintaining it, I accept donations through both Bitcoin and PayPal.

If you felt like the guide helped you out then I'd really appreciate it! If I get enough I may buy a 2DS for testing hardware stuff so I don't break another N3DS.

If the guide didn't help you out then I'm really sorry about that :(

Wooo!! Got my US o3ds OTP on the first try with no bricks and no hard mod either :yay3ds:

Edit: If it helps anyone I downgraded to 4.2 using the gateway downgrader and from there using sysupdater to install 2.1 using the pack from that iso site and updated back to 4.5 using my animal crossing cart then used the gateway ultra on the browser to restore my 9.2 nand.bin

So im brain dead when it comes to CMD how do I even do this? The only command I remember from school is cd.. and help lol

In a Command Prompt or Terminal window, cd into this folder.
Windows:

3DSFAT16tool.exe -d -n emuNAND.bin ctr.bin nand.fat16_0x5_xorpad
3DSFAT16tool.exe -i -o emuNAND.bin ctr.bin nand.fat16_0x4_xorpad
mv emuNAND.bin sysNAND.bin
rem ctr.bin

Yes i think
EUR support is being added as we speak.

cd changes directory and dir lists the files and folders. You're going to want to use cd and dir to find the folder you have put the files in then copy and paste those commands.

Would it be to much to ask for an executable batch file with commands that I can drag into the folder and run it :P

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

ok nvm I think I can do this on my own hopefully

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Oh boy I really dont wanna do all that again

3DSFAT16tool (C version) by d0k3
--------------------------------

dumping & decrypting ctr.bin
from emuNAND.bin
using nand.fat16_0x5_xorpad

open nand.fat16_0x5_xorpad failed!

C:\Users\Javie\Desktop\3ds stuff>3DSFAT16tool.exe -i -o emuNAND.bin ctr.bin nand.fat16_0x4_xorpad

3DSFAT16tool (C version) by d0k3

injecting & encrypting ctr.bin
to emuNAND.bin
using nand.fat16_0x4_xorpad

open nand.fat16_0x4_xorpad failed!

C:\Users\Javie\Desktop\3ds stuff>mv emuNAND.bin sysNAND.bin
'mv' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

C:\Users\Javie\Desktop\3ds stuff>rem ctr.bin

Yes. EUR Support has been added, New 3DS guide has been completely fixed, and 2DS was condensed to fit with the old 3ds guide. I also just fixed a command typo, please refresh.
Ok Thanks i just wanted to be clear

So My last quistion:

Hat is the risky Part of that guide?

Without a hard mod do you need a cart to upgrade a N3DS? I'm guessing there is no way to run sysupdater again on 2.1 to upgrade back to 9.2?

I haven't tried it yet but I've read all the guide and from my experience with this kind of thing (I'm a programmer) is that a lot of people will make something wrong in the parts where you hexedit files, one single wrong byte and you are fucked... Hexediting files can be tricking sometimes...

Flashing shit into your sysnand is always risky ofc, but for me the biggest risk in this procedure is the user doing something wrong.

Is there Also an risky Part?

Yes, sure, flashing shit into sysnand is always risky, imagine if you do not verify the MD5 of the content you are flashing for example... then you can be flashing a corrupt file and you are fucked. Now imagine if you hexedit some file the wrong way, only one bit misplaced and you are fucked again. Imagine now if in the mid of the process of flashing into the sysnand your 3ds battery runs out of power or I dont know, a bad contact happens and it get shutdown or simply a kernel fault randomly occurs in the mid of the process and the 3ds crash, you are fucked again...

So, like I said, the procedure indeed have risky parts(all the parts where you write to your sysnand) but I still think that 98% of the bricks will be because of the user doing wrong flashes or hexediting the wrong way..

The new 3DS is super risky, absolutely not recommended without a hardmod. Here's a list of what can go wrong (off the top of my head)
  • Bad zip download
  • Bad unzip
  • Partial downgrade
  • Bad hex edit
  • Bad sysnand backup
  • Bad sysnand restore
  • Commands run incorrectly = brick
  • Stuck on 2.1 if you have no cart, forced to update to 10.5
  • etc etc etc

I would wait until a NAND restore payload is released.

I need to advise users that N3DS consoles should NOT be updated from <3.x via game cards. It'll put you on an O3DS firmware, and there's a high chance you'll have a basic brick.

nand restore payload is being tested for 2.1.0-4 with spider atm, if it works fine, the last issue will be fine ; and also, most of those issues can be fixed with a pyhton script ^^
and also...don't update to 10.5, it kinda bricks ^^' i have proof of that sitting next to me (i'll have a sd reader for my nand mod by the end of the week, so whatev')
