because all games prior to 9.2 don't have a nds update partition , and the only game that has 9.2 update is smach bross , so either you get a brick or you update to the latest firmware 10.5

So I'm hearing mixed things.

You said because it will render the web exploit unusable, but *apparently* someone was bricked when updating via gamecart.


If it doesn't brick, and I already have Ninjahax, then shouldn't it *technically* be possible to upgrade on a N3DS via gamecard and use Ninjahax to restore the NAND?

well maybe i am wrong , but since the nds will act like an o3ds , it will install system files which are not designed for n3ds (remeber all semi bricks during the downgrade periode)
maybe i am wrong , this needs more testing

why will updating with a game brick my n3ds?

trust me, if you get to 7.2+ you will get a soft brick (the homemenu will try to have you boot miverse, but will miserably keep failing and thus won't let you boot anyhting, i was there before attempting a safemode update....don't do that ^^' got to a hard brick )
to add to it, i went to 6.1.0 as well, no softbrick or anything, so i would say 6.1.0 is latest safe version for N3DS with O3DS firmware post downgrade

well, i had a TWL firm brick, so i couldn't start a NDS title to install any mset rop, so nope

What if you upgrade to 4.5 (via Luigi's Mansion 2), then use Cubic Ninja for Ninjahax (thus, completely avoiding the necessity for NDS cartridge/web) and from there, install MSET or run gateway directly to restore the NAND?

i would wait for N3DS for the nand restore payload for 2.1.0E to be finished, progress is slowly being made (that is if the main dev wasn't procrasintaing so much, wink wink)

yeah...that won't work either, because for ninjhax to work you need to have -7 spider and for the tutorial, -4 spider is used...sooo real checkmate until payload, trust me, i tried most shit to get it to work...nope

Thanks for the info on versions. I haven't been able to test for the exact version it stops working, but it shouldn't brick anyone because anyone attempting this right now, especially on n3ds, SHOULD HAVE A HARDMOD.

btw, @Plailect , from tests with a N3ds and 2ds, 2.1.0-4E's spider CIA (0004003000009D02) consistently makes downgrade fail, could you look into that ?

I may as well say that for my 2ds(U) 0004003000008F02.cia is the one that will always lead to an error message and an incomplete downgrade for me at least. Not sure what it is so could you look into this as well?

You could maybe try installing it separately with FBI, destination NAND (the latest FBI should offer to automatically uninstall the current one and then install in its place). Since it's not NATIVE_FIRM, it probably shouldn't matter if you use sysUpdater for that particular CIA or not.

Try the new 2.1E downgrade pack. The guide has been updated.

why couldn't you update from 2.1 to 9.2 using a smash bros cart? that part isn't clear to me

Ignore him, not sure what he was saying. The current upper limit on the cart update is unknown, somewhere between 6.0 and 7.2 according to @capito27

well, the soft brick was due to home menu attempting to start miiverse applet and it never actually properly starting, and according to this, miiverse was introduced in 7.0.0, i'd say max is 6.4.0 ho and btw, i was in 6.1, not 6.0, my bad ^^' (due to eur pokemon X update)
