others free OS

are there other free OS, I have ubuntu 10.10 reinstalleed on the 16.1GIG.
But i have a 4GIG extra hardware is there another OS that i can install for free on it?

Ubuntu is based on the Debian kernel, one of the bigger distros around. MOst programs will work on it. If you have one distro of Linux there's really no need to have another unless you particularly dislike the UI.
ALso, not installing 11.04? Even if you don't like Unity you can turn that off by making the default desktop "Ubuntu Classic"

yea but i downgraded from ubuntu 11.4 to 10.10 because it freezes everytime after some minutes
and i lost my wireless drivers thanks to 11.4 -_-

Ubuntu is no OS, it's a distribution of the OS Linux.

If you want another OS, try BSD or Haiku.

Linux is actually a kernel thing, and Ubuntu is... something os-like.
Maybe Linux Mint is something you like. Try it in VirtualBox, and see if you are interested.

Okay you got me sausage Head, Linux is the Kernel, GNU/Linux is the OS. Ubuntu remains a distribution thereof .

Try installing GParted Live to the hard disk if it's a separate one. If it's not a separate hard drive, then fill it with some good games.

And good choice not upgrading Ubuntu

If you know the basics of linux (terminal use, config files) then i would recommend ArchLinux. It's very lightweight distro and you can build it up from almost nothing (you have most essential stuff at your disposal. If your still learning linux this is a great way to learn it very fast you have to find alot on your own or read on the internet.

If you have no Swap set up for your Ubuntu yet you can use that partition as the Swap partition.
