Okay, so I managed to find myself a set of Component Video Cables to go with my PSP.

Current settings on the PSP are:
  • 16:9 (my TV is a 1080p set anyway)
  • Progressive (see above)
  • Flicker Reduction on (LCD)
While PSX games played on PSP (with the PSN builds at least) will allow me to play at the correct aspect ratio on the PSP screen, they seem to get stretched to full size when playing on the TV.

At the same time, so far the PSP seems to be the only device wherein, if I play its games, its video out ends up being at a 1:1 ratio. PSP games played this way end up being in a miniature letterbox on my TV, only filling up maybe a quarter of the space.

Is there some way to at least fix one or the other? Not sure what to hit for the video settings to help correct these unexpected results.
