An HDMI converter should only be used if it's the only port option, because it does result in a loss of picture quality. Instead, buy a component cable if the TV has component ports. In other words:

Component cables --> Best
Composite cables --> Not great
HDMI converter --> Bad

All three are usable, but I can definitely tell the difference between the three.

Edit: I assumed that you were talking about the Wii because this is the Wii section. Is that correct?

SCART supports composite and RGB. SNES, GameCube, and Wii SCART cables are all RGB.

While it is possible to use 480p on SCART, most devices (including GameCube and Wii) don't support it.

Yeah I'd've thought it should be closer to component than composite since it has separate RGB pins. I know its obsolete compared to hdmi input tvs, I only had it as old tube tv I had when I first got the Wii didn't have component. vWii through hdmi works just fine though (apart from on my HP monitor, that just black-screens when you enter vWii, never figured out why)
