It looks great on my old tv, but that thing was fat, and ugly.
I bought a little 19" Sylvania HDTV / monitor /everything else from a friend, and the Wii looks noticeably worse than ever before on it.
I've tried changing Wii settings from 4:3 to 16:9, changing the actual tv from widescreen, to full, to sidebar mode, everything. It just looks so pixelated compared to before.

I'm using the regular, red-white-yellow cables, which yes, I know is probably the main problem.
Can I just buy the other cable (component?) and it will make it look good? Or one of those HDMI things I see other topics discussing?

I know nothing about resolutions, or anything like this. So hopefully someone could give me a little advice.
Or possibly explain what makes it look worse than a standard definition television.
Thanks for your time!

You can see pixels now because the HDTV actually uses pixels instead of scanlines.

The component cable will improve the quality dramatically but you'll still have jagged lines.

Composite cables (The ones you're using now) are of lower quality; the quality of the signal is poorer and less clear. This reduces the colour quality of the image.

Component cables are one of the best; the quality of the signal is better and clearer. The colour quality of the image will thus be very good.

The problem is, since the image is blurrier with composite cables than component cables, the aliasing will be less clear, thus making the image look sharper.

I find this a problem with my PS2 too. After using component cables, I find the aliasing of the image to be so bad I had to switch back to composite cables.

Sorry pal, this seems like a technical limitation to me. Either use shitty, older tech that gives you better image quality or move up the tech tree and face the torture of aliasing

The biggest reason though, is that a HDTV have to upscale the image to its native resolution, while an old CRT dont.
By upscaling an image smaller than the native resolution, you will lose quite a lot of quality (you can try that on any picture on your PC, just zoom in and you'll see what I mean).

The lack of AA is what makes it really bad though. But thats a technical limitation of the Wii. It is possible to "fake" the AA by replacing the textures but... Its not something you want to do with every game you own lol.

The wii has AA, most games just don't use it.

Because most games has too big enviroments for the Wii to handle AA in those games. It can handle AA in smaller levels such as SMG etc, but anything bigger is a bit too much for the poor Wii.
