you got the chinese version but the people converted it for you to a english version, thats why there is that small wire.

i would try the heatgun trick, dont make it too hot, just enough so the part sits in place again.

Put it back together and use a Q-Tip with Alcohol to swab the contacts. It might work after that.

That's good to know repair's possible. In my line of work we have the luxury of doing just what I said. SMD's seldom get repaired or replaced. At least not by us. I know for a fact our suppliers will diagnose and repair defective boards I'd have just written it off.

Actually, they have what is called hot air stations and likely automated BGA rework units which use hot air

(never heard of anyone using a "heat gun" (aka paint stripper) on a PCB aside from RROD xbox360 or in removing all components off a board when one doesn't care if they work after). Wave soldering is usually only first pass in manufacture, often automated units are used to apply IC's, connectors and such after as well as QA devices.

Thanks for the compliment though (to most home electronics enthusiasts), resoldering that component would be a matter of tuning my station to around 490 degrees, applying a little flux and it'd be done in 3 fairly quick taps - whether it solved the problem or not, replacing the component onto the board is not the hard part.

I tried some of the things you suggested i.e putting the component back on the board using electrical tape!!

I did it pretty good because I know the chip needs to be in contact with the board!

But it's not working.

And the things stridex and cory are suggesting cannot be done by me. I may have to give it someone professional to do it (I am a computer science student).

And well I will give the r4ds for soldering to someone good in a few days. If the problem is solved by soldering then I will consider myself a very lucky person!!

Really guys be VERY careful with your r4's. I dropped my ds like 2-3 times and not even a scratch on it. Everything was working perfectly.

I drop the r4 for the FIRST time on the floor it gets screwed!!

I will report back any developments here!
