Lol @ people offering 15/20 bucks for translations... These things take a lot of time and effort and you're offering 20 bucks? You can't even BUY THE GAME with 20 bucks.
Dude, do realize I can play the game for $00.00? I can already play game and understand most of mechanics for free, essentially all I'm paying for is the story, which I don't consider too valuable. I'm a gameplay freak, but of course it bugs me that I can't get any story, so that is my reason for a translation. The thing is I have played tons of Japanese games and had no clue whats going on enjoyed them, sure getting the story is worth something but nothing above say $25.00 USD

You can't have the passion of a romhacker/translator just for money, if a game doesn't interest them then money for translating it won't either.

I'm just saying if I can a get JAP version of the game for free, I shouldn't being full price just for translation.

Seriously If i was admin you'd be perminantly banned by now. Do you know how much time and effort go into official translations let alone unofficial ones (atleast twice as hard as official)?? You can either shut the fuck up right now or i will get you banned. GBATemp has turned to shit in the last 2 years .... TOOOOOO many fucking n00bs who want things now and want things for free. Be fucking glad you get your games for free you fucking little pirating bastard.

I agree, translators don't have to do these things. They can keep it all to themselves and not let you in on them. Good job Norm

It's very apparent that you don't know the value of translation. Firstly, through your piracy of games and comparing that to the purchase of a real service, and then by offering $25 for the translation of a game. Unless the translation (and hacking) took far less than an hour, you couldn't get the personnel required to do it professionally for that much. When companies translate games, do you really think anyone in the company is thinking "hm... this localization effort is worth about $25."?

You're really fortunate that you're even able to download these games in the first place - it's not as if you did anything to deserve it. And no, buying a flashcart does not count.

Give romhacking and translating a game a shot - you'll see why what you're saying is an insult to people who actually do the work.

Or, if you're serious about paying for a translation, head here and get the game localized. See if they'll do it for $25.

The game you get for $0.... yes. You can also get tangled in legal issues with that too.

You understand the essentials, everything except the story. Then don't play the story. Simple? And you don't have to pay full price "just for translation"? You do know that even if you already own a Japan game card, you still have to pay full, if not more, money for the locallization?

If you think the story is not worth more than 25 USD, you must have never went to the game shops and see the price tags on the text based games.

Your logic is twisted.

@Omatic-Why does everyone try to act innocent here, practically everyone here is pirate, get used to it and FYI I have tried to translate a game before needless to say it was insanely hard.
Ok, I wasn't trying to offend anyone, but from a personal standpoint isn't worth that to me. If might ask exactly how much is appropriate for a translation? I heard somewhere on this forum $40.00 was the maximum for translation.

And a hell of a lot of people here still buy games. To act proud of pirating games is absolutely stupid. To lump everyone together is even worse.

Blatantly pirating is one thing when you know its pirating but you little fucks thing everything should be done for free and done right this fucking second. I for one don't put up with idiots who take this stance or for any n00bs unless you try things themselves. I'm not hear to offer kind words or help people or even to be nice. I do what i do for my enjoyment i'm just kind enough to release it for everyone to enjoy but the more people i see asking stupid fucking questions the more it pisses me off and that just makes me all the less likely to release things publicly again. This forum is full of fucking idiots below 15yrs and all they do is whine and bitch and piss everyone off with their horribly wrong english. For all those n00bs out their FUCK OFF!

maybe this will turn out to be another FLAME thread~!

40 for a translation? maybe a beggar would take it! i also see this as an insult to the rom hackers
most of them do it for the passion, challenge and being part of the community!

some of the rom hacking team i know! they do it for FREE and yes they translate more games than you would have ever imagine!
from NDS - PSP - PS - PC... etc!
maybe what they asked in return is getting people to support/respect their forums/team (in terms of visit and posting)

seriously, please show some decent respect
i hope in future when you say/type something please think before you say/type

I'm not going to flame anymore. This thread might get closed down. Read their posts please. Don't put us all in the same category as you blatant pirates thank you, we bought games and will continue to buy. So try not to start a flame war now like elixir said.

Thank you for your kind understanding~

..... if you don't flame me, that is.

there might be tons of the pirates out there especially those noobs!!! ~!
but don't generalise people just because gbatemp talks about pirate and somehow indirectly promote pirates (patch, ar codes, fixes)~!

i agree! i might not buy tons of games but i do buy games that i really like and i actually play!

Well, pirating is the main part of GBATemp life.... so can't blame him cos he may be one of those noobs~ Oh wait.... why is he in the "members" group? Shouldn't he be in 'Blatant Pirate" or "Flamebait"?

Ah well.... we should go back on topic soon.

leapfrogging off of omatic's post here - clearly someone doesn't see how business works either [mr. dro]
you sorta realized saying what's in bold is saying "I'll pay $25 in translation because a game isn't worth more than $40" - most professionals translate games for a paycheck. Games are priced $40 because people will buy multiple copies of the game [possibly somewhere in the thousands]
If the gaming industry worked on a commission-based system those translators would be making money ON EACH GAME. Therefore the only way offering a price like $40 would work is if the translator charged $40 for the patch.

And that's dumb. Not to mention pretty illegal since you'd be selling modified, copyrighted game code.

If you're gonna pay one person to translate a game, the right way [not legally right, mind] would be to pay them hourly for their services.
when they're done expect to pay quite a bit for the service.
tongue.gif

An intelligent person who's got legality in mind would say "yeah sure, I'll take care of any costs for software you need to buy for translation".
However, most software for the translation Noitora or I do doesn't cost money
