you need to hold reset to access preloader, in case you didn't know. But if what techno said is true, then it wouldn't matter anyways.
Problem resolved...
I finally decided maybe one of the system buttons was stuck or something. I removed the Wii from it's little cubbyhole to see if there were any buttons that I'd overlooked. When I pulled it out I see something completely unexpected. There was an extra black cord plugged in on the side. Apparently my Wife had played DDR at some point and managed to put the mat away still plugged in and the cord was neatly tucked back out of sight.
I don't own any GC games or accessories so it never occurred to me something was plugged in over there. I freely admit the problem was entirley of my own making and apologize for wasting the time of those who tried to help.
Thanks to all for the assistance. Now to get past that USB not recognizing issue, but I'll be going back through the simplistic mod from the beginning and I'm sure that will fix it right up.

1: make sure theres a wbfs partition on the drive.
2: make sure the drive is plugged into the bottom(while flat) usb port
if the answer to 1 is "there is", try a pc wbfs manager and see if it picks it up

I only watch tv when i goto bed, it puts me to sleep, and I have a nas drive filled w my fav shows so i can watch them in order, commercial free. I usually watch Married w Children, or South Park

I stream from Nas to firestick, one on every tv, and use Kodi. I'm happy w it, plays everything. (I pirate/torrent shows/movies on pc, and put on nas)

I got my Dad a firestick for Xmas and showed him those 3rd party sites on Kodi, he loves it, all he watches anymore. He said he has got 3 letters from AT&T already about pirating, but he says f them, let them shut my internet off (He wants out of his AT&T contract anyways)
