and here I thought this was going to be easy...

So I'm already in panic mode. I've followed the directions exactly, answered all of ModMii's questions, let it download the stuff it wanted to download onto an SD card, insert the SD card into my 4.3 unmodded console, went to yesterday in mail and clicked the red bomb message. Now my Wii's got a black screen and the blue disc light blinking for about 10 minutes straight. What do I do???

So I held the power button for 5 seconds like the ModMii guide says to do if/when I get a freeze. But now I'm trying for the second time, and although the blue light isn't flashing this time, I'm still just sitting at a black screen for 10 minutes. Why is this happening when I'm following the directions exactly?

The other odd thing was when it did the 2nd pass and verified the backup, the block marked bad changed to green (good).
I think my Wii is haunted...

This is normal.

It means the Original NAND matches the dumped NAND (meaning they are both marcked as "bad block" correctly).

i have a wii 4.0U, and i want to update shop channel to get working to get youtube channel and other things but i'm afraid to update thinking shop channel will change my wii to 4.3U, because my wii have modchip and bootmii@boot2 and i heard i can cause big problems updating system
so, i can install IOS 61 and shop channel v21 with wad manager without problems or its dangerous? And its ok with youtube channel? thanks!

do you have a file called boot.elf at the root of your SD card?
Maybe try using a different SD card (in case it's SDHC, try with a normal SD)

question if was to burn a gamecube disc to a DVD-R will be able to make an .ISO later?

yes, you can make iso from burn disc without problem.
The same for Wii burnt discs (and all other manually burnt discs)

I already have a FAT32 formatted USB drive that I'd like to use with the Wii, but I don't see that offered as an option in Modmii. It offers to format in FAT32, and it offers to use a drive already formatted partially in FAT32 and partially in another filesystem, but I don't see an option for someone who already has a FAT32 drive and does NOT want to format it.

What do I do?

Then you skip the format part of the drive. Use Wii Backup Manager on your PC with the drive connected to your PC, and you can now transfer your wii games to the drive. Thats about it....

There are different custom IOS:
Hermes type: latest is 5.1
Waninkoko type: Latest is r21
D2x (Waninkoko mod of r21) : Latest stable is v8, latest beta is v9 r49

Different MIOS:
Wiigator: cMIOS (latest known by me is v0.2, but I didn't check if there are new version)
Crediar: DIOS MIOS & DIOS MIOS lite v2.5

Custom BC:
Crediar: DIOS MIOS (Lite) 2.5 too, but for *neek emualated NAND.

The WAD manager way is just fine. The YouTube channel youtube channel should appear in the shop channel among the other normal wii channels. If it doesn't, you might have to change your country setting in the system menu in order for it to show up (I had to change it to USA for it to appear.)

thanks, i installed ios 56, 62 and shop channel and worked like a charm, found youtube and downloaded it

Hey there, before packing away my Wii in wait for the Wii U. I want to fix it up, or reset or something.
It's somewhat softmodded, but out of date since its been out of use for a while. I cannot use the Wii Shop and such, will I be able to simply install ModMii and tell it that is the first time I've modded it and it will overwrite everything else and make it up to date and fully functioning?
Not really sure how far this hacking has come, the guide I used to softmod it the first time is not here anymore. I have a D2C or something key in there, which probably tells you something about the time I last used it.... years.

Yup, a rehack "from scratch" with modmii would do the trick. You could also give ModMii a syscheck log and it would download exactly what you need to update just the outdated stuff. Your choice.

ah, thank you. I was hoping for that. I will look into ModMii some more then. I also have a NAND backup on an external HDD. Is that something I should hold on to?

Yeah, NAND backups can be a lifesaver if the Wii gets really screwed up.

Hey guys. I've been browsing the forum looking to know how to update my 4.2E Wii to the latest shop channel but I haven't had any luck. Some mention the use of this or that software but without any concrete instructions. So my doubt is: how do I update the shop channel on my console?

EDIT:

Well, I decided to try to work out this myself and for anyone having the same issue here are the steps I followed.

1- Used ModMii's classic interface to get Shopping-Channel-NUS-v21.wad.

2- Copied the file to an SD card.

3- Used WAD Manager 1.7 to install the WAD file. The options I picked were "using IOS249", "NAND emulator disable" and "Source device SD Slot". After that I selected the file from my SD card and selected to install. After a few seconds it should say the file was installed correctly.

The Shop Channel is now working nicely!
