Just don't update. If you are using the disc, block updates with Priiloader and install IOS56 (you can get it from ModMii). If you are using a backup loader then you don't need to do anything.

You won't brick from downgrading a new Wii or from updating a region-changed Korean Wii.

I don't have the time to read all the "Skyward Sword issues" threads (though I DID read many of them, and didn't find a single person with the same problem I'm having), so...

I'm using CFG USB Loader to load the game, and it runs issue-free for the most part, but sometimes it hangs with a white screen when I select the "Go to sky" function at a Bird Statue. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

nand - basically what everything you do on your Wii is it's nand you can back it up and use with neek2o and it'll look the same. Neek2o does not require cIOS and runs games with original IOS intended by nintendo.
cIOS - Custiom IOS; daveboel d2x are the latest and best
UNEEK +DI - lookup neek2o as neek2o is the basically the same as uneek+di but supports the formats as usb loaders do off real nand.
modmii - A great tool that is pretty much idiot proof can even setup neek2o for you Please donate it's really great.

Question regarding using a portable HD to load the games to Wii.

Does the portable HD have to be dedicated to Wii games only? Was thinking of adding a Wii game folder to my portable HD, where many other folders of different uses currently reside.

no, u can have other files saved on it, fat32 works best though, ntfs isn't supported in all apps, but it's good enough to run a usb-loader

Can't load New Kirby (black screen) but other games load fine.
Updated Wii for first time in years using ModMii -> 4.2u + latest USB loader GX. Anyone got a minute to look over my sysCheck to see where I went wrong?
