i'm a fan of both...i recommend both...i have both installed on my wii....since your wii is 'several' years old, i imagine you can install bootmii@boot2, which is good.....

what each gives me:

bootmii@boot2: boot into sneek and the ultimate in brick protection....

priiloader: autoboot directly to USB loader (wiiflow), enable hacks to allow me to move the disc channel (which i rarely use), play other region games from discs, blocks system updates from discs (in the event someone else were to pop in a disc, it won't even prompt them to update...), (auto)boot into HBC....

Hey - I just installed Bootmii as boot 2 and it was a successful install. However, when the Wii boots up and goes to the bootmii screen, I cannot control anything from the Wiimote - it just blinks like it does not have a connection. If I press reset on the Wii, it boots to the menu....and I doing something wrong?

never mind - I see you have to control it from the power button.

Is there any way to control Bootmii from the Wiimote?

nope you're not....at the boot2 point in the boot sequence (where you've just installed bootmii), the bluetooth hasn't been initialized yet (at least that's how it was explained to me).....

to navigate in bootmii...the power button scrolls, the reset button selects....i think a GC controller can also navigate bootmii though as well....

to keep bootmii from starting at boot, just pop the SD card into a computer and change the 'bootmii' folder to something else (like '~bootmii' or 'x-bootmii')... if you ever need to get into bootmii from here on out, just change that folder name back to 'bootmii'....

while in bootmii however, it might be wise to make a NAND back-up (takes about 20 minutes or so)...it's the best form of brick protection because with a NAND back-up and bootmii@boot2, you can restore your wii system back to the day the back-up was made in [email protected] the event you get a brick.... after you get your nand back-up, you can move it off the SD card onto your computer for safe keeping....

Hey - I much appreciate your advice and help. I am reading the modify any Wii thread. I just did a NAND backup and copied it off the Wii and onto my laptop. It also says to erase all those files from the SD card.

Is there any good reason to keeping the Bootmii folder on the SD card?

Thanks again for everything.

...you don't really need it..... it's tiny though, so i just renamed mine...that way if i ever need it again, it's right there....

i usually do NAND backups before i make any significant changes/updates to the wii, that way if anything goes awry and i need to revert back, i don't lose all the progress on my game saves or channels....so having the bootmii folder handy is good for me.....

definitely move the back-up off though...that's not so tiny!

trying to install priiloader now but getting a weird error message...

...i'm thinking you'll need a patched IOS70 (you're on 4.2U correct?) you should be able to get it in the download pack (42mod) you can get from the 'Modify any wii 4.3 and below' thread....

let me kow if this does it....

what version of priiloader you using? 0.4?

I am getting this error message:

"ES_Identify failed, error 4294966279. Ios58 not patched with ES_DIVerify? using cios (holding b and then pressing + or -) will probably solve this.
NOTE: you need CIOS for this.

The version of Priiloader I am trying to install is .4 rev 78

And yes, I am on 4.2U

Thanks....

Come to think of it, I'm not sure I feel confident to install this - my Wii is also hardmodded and I just read of some possible issues....

i know nothing about hardmods...so i'm of little help regarding possible conflicts....

...at least you got the bootmii@boot2 + NAND back-up...so at least you're brick-safe

I was afraid to hold down the B + to install.

Yes- I have Wanin's Rev 17 and Hermes Rev 5.1

I think I'll just stick with Bootmii for now...

But I much appreciate your help though.

Thanks again!

i'm sure this has been asked but i couldn't find the answer. how do you install wiiware/virtual console games to an sd card instead of system memory using MMM or another wad installation tool? thanks.

1. What's difference between cIOSX 249 bases?

2. Is it possible to make channels like Loadstructor or Crap ones for FAT32 partition?

Is it possible to perform a NAND backup on all wii's? Like if I went out and bought a new wii tomorrow, could I backup the NAND on it?

If it is hackable, (and all Wiis are--obivously with 4.3 you need something like smash stack though, as bannerbomb doesn't work) then yeah. If you can't install bootmii as boot2 you can (always?) install it as an IOS.

If I have my wii NAND backed up and I bricked my wii, would I be able to fix it with the NAND backup? I ain't bricked my wii but it's just something I would like to know.

Hello all, this seems to be the right place for my question.

I have a wiikey v1 (not updated to the newest patch that just came out), with wii system menu 3.3U I think. Have been dormant in the wii scene for the last year or so, Goldeneye, Donkey Kong, and Kirby have sparked my interest.

I'm looking to:

- Play all backups (new games won't work on the wiikey v1 anymore i suppose)

I'm interested in knowing about:

- What cool new things you can do with your wii (homebrew etc, and how to run them)
- What the whole wifi mod thing is about
- Do I gain any advantages from having a more up to date wii? Usually I like my software to be updated.

Thanks,

battleshrew

You should follow this guide to sofmod your wii.

Homebrew is easy to run on the wii, as when you softmod you get a channel called "The Homebrew Channel" (or HBC for short). You can even download wii homebrew from the wii itself, using an app called the homebrew browser.

You don't really gain to much except for a new SD card menu and something to do with playing wiiware and VC off your SD card or something, I'm not really sure. I'm on 4.2 and everything's fine for me.

Hope I could help

I haven't touched the wii in quite awhile (probably 1.5 years), but now my son is a little older I want to put some games on a HD so he doesn't have to muck around with loading the discs and leaving them scattered around the living room. While I'm doing this I figure I'll just upgrade everything to the latest and greatest, but would rather not screw it up so I'm asking for advice here. I've been reading http://gbatemp.net/t171901-modify-any-wii-4-3-below but some of the stuff seems pointless since I have homebrew channel installed and have modchip, but I'm not sure which is pointless.

Current configuration:
1. My wii is a launch day wii with an original wiikey updated to 1.9s (99% sure).
2. I installed the initial homebrew channel ages ago and never did anything with it.
3. I'm running 3.2U firmware if I remember correctly.
Anything else you need to know?

Questions:
1. Which firmware should I update to? 4.2 or 4.3?
2. Do/Should I need a to download 42/43mod.zip? If so do I really need to email someone to get it?
3. Do/Should I need to reinstall Homebrew channel?
4. Do/Should I need to install Bootmii?
5. Do/Should I need to install cIOS?
6. Do/Should I need to install Priiloader?
7. Do/Should I need to install cMIOS?

Thanks and sorry for the n00b questions. I'm sure it is all located in this forum somewhere and I THINK I know the answer to a lot of these questions, but would like to make sure I'm doing it right.
