Make sure the Wii/vwii has sound set to surround in the Wii menu. On vwii you need a homebrew setting editor.

If on WiiU. You need to set the WiiU sound to Stereo. I run WiiU and I have working PLII, tested worth Rogue Squadron sound test.
WiiU here.
So let me get it straight... In order for me to be able to make use of the PLII sound in Wii/GC games I need to run a homebrew to edit the vWii settings (didn't Nintendo release an update for PLII compatibility?)and not only that but I need to put the Wiiu in STEREO thus crippling true LPCM surround sound? Is that correct?
And if that's the case, is it only for games loaded through USB loaders or for retail (Wii only in the case of Wiiu) games aswell?
Thanks for the help.

sorry but you got bad information, the Wii U will set vWii to surround if you put surround in the Wii U settings. After that in order to hear surround in gamecube games you gotta do two things 1) set the gamecube game to surround sound (this is done in the in game settings) and 2) go to your receiver and set it to Dolby Pro Logic II movie (or any varatiation like pro logic IIz movie)

well I decided to just commit what I have, its very basic and might not for you, also make sure to enable memcard emulation if you want to have a chance of it working at all.
-added gamecube bios support, please note that this is still very early in testing so it might not fully work, to let a game start using the original gamecube bios place iplusa.bin, ipljap.bin and/or iplpal.bin onto your device root, if nintendont finds the bios fitting to the game region it tries to start it, as of right now this feature has no use whatsoever and only exists for pure demonstration purposes

Bios support is so awesome, brings back lots of good memories. when testing games for compatibility I would steer clear of this feature, obviously this is strictly for fun and nostalgic purposes so please keep the, "this game doesn't work with the bios please fix" comments to a minimum.

Mmm... I already kinda knew that.
Ok,so here's another issue. Maybe this one can be solved.
NGC games do not output DPLII sound. (at least my AVR can't detect it) Is there something wrong? Is there a setting or something I should change?
Do you mean not every game? Beacuse there are alot of GCN games compatible with DPII, remember DPII is stereo signal and it emulates 5.1 channels, your receiver gets stereo signal and it gets decoded in 2.1, you need force DPII instead setting the sound straight, it happened to me before, Wii/GCN games didn't get recognized as DPII when the decoder was straight, I have to set game mode and now it "knows" when the source is DPII or LPCM, it depends on your receiver though, it could need change manually to DPII. Another important point is you will only get DPII and LPCM through HDMI, (maybe vWii can do 5.1 with component/composite cable never tried).

On vWii you just need set surround under Wii U settings.

Not true, it works with Wii U set in surround sound, problaby also works with stereo since GCN only had mono/stereo options (not sure)

ive had a few recievers over the years and in most you simply gotta set the receiver to dolby prologic II movie. Dont use prologic II game. I know its super counter intuitive. But pro logic II game is meant for games that do not support pro logic 2 natively. There are a few receivers that know when they are getting a native pro logic II signal but most receivers dont have this feature and you gotta set up pro logic II movie manually

Edit: also in gamecube games you gotta remember to go to the game's settings and enable surround sound

Ack... it's not bad information. It's just what I have to do. Basically I forgot to mention that my Surround does not support LPCM so if I set the WiiU to Surround I get Stereo, because of the limitation of Optical Digital sound. So in my case I have to have the WiiU output in Stereo and I've edited the VWii settings to surround. I get PLII for both Wii and GameCube games that support it. PS I hate this tendency to waste as many bits as possible and make my expensive surround speakers obsolete (LPCM is completely uncompressed, thanks for not even giving us PLII for WiiU Nintendo...).

if its any consolation you can keep using those speakers, you just gotta change the receiver (which i know is pretty expensive)

hi,

just set this up and games launch fine but then the controller is not recognized. I am using the wii u golden eye classic controller. In games it doesn't work at all, tried dis and reconnecting. At the loader, if its plugged in the loader just auto exits back to Wii system menu. Do I need to change any settings for it to work? Cheers

Thanks for the tip, will check it out ;)

For some reason that I still don't know, I need set my receiver with whatever DSP filter (ex. movie) to it recognize DPLII automatically, if I just set the source to straight it will recognize LPCM just fine, but will decode DPLII as a stereo signal (which is not wrong either) enabling only front speakers.

EDIT: Just check my DSP filter, it's on Movie, it's just Movie filter has other variations: Drama, Mono Movie, RPG Game, Action Game, Standart, Sports, Spectacle, Sci-Fi, Adventure. I have "Movie>Action Game" set up, that's why I get confused.

thats because thats what you are telling it to do. let me explain: when you set a receiver to "straight" you are basically telling the receiver to do nothing and just play the signal it gets. Meaning that it wont do any dolby pro logic decoding and it will ignore all your subwoofer settings. That is why i always recommend against using "straight" unless you really want to hear something in plain stereo. I had a receiver a few years ago that had DSP filters. I never used them much and i simply set the receiver to Dolby Pro logic 2 movie. If the movie had 5.1 dolby digital or 5.1 LCPM i would set them to their respective settings (usually this is done automatically though) but i would never let it use straight cause I did not want the receiver to ignore my custom settings

What's the simplest way to verify that the output is 480p? Since 480i lags more than Mel Gibson in a BMW at 3 am, I figure it must be working. If the TV says '480p' it must be 480p, right?

i cant believe the progress on this project. compatability/ps4 and other gamepads working and now with a kwl bios in the works. thanks for the hard work everyones put in btw

Can someone post the MD5 or SHA1 hashes of the bios bin files so we know if we find a good version?

thanks for adding bios support!
I see few benefits of the bios other than the nice intro movie
1: we can use it to erase saves from the mc
2: if real mc is mounted in slot B on wii with gc card slots, we can copy saves between the real and emulated mc raw file in easy manner
now is it possible to leave the game booting thingy to nintendont via a patch of some sort?

As video patching doesn't seem to apply to the IPL, the pal bios cannot be used on an NTSC TV.
Other than that, it works great.

I can't get this to work. I put the bios (iplusa.bin) into both the root of my SD and Usb but it never starts up.

Tested Metroid prime, Eternal darkness, Resident Evil 4, and super smash bro's melee. am i doing something wrong?
