Would you believe me if I told you that Nintendo was working on designing its own Android-based tablet? No you wouldn't. And what if I told you that the tablet was being designed for use in schools, and that it came with educational games? Read the article below:
Tweets sent out by Nintendo of America software engineer Nando Monterazo have revealed the existence of a new tablet for schools. It’s mainly designed to play educational games rather than core titles that Nintendo fans are used to.
The full lineup of tweets are as follows:

Experimenting with a tablet of Nintendo, the system is based on android, fully modified and unified as a database of the tablet. #Android

At the moment just testing communication environment of educational games that will be shared between the kids using the tablet! #Tablet

Nintendo is testing only the "Android" but in fact she wants a system written in C/C++ in a Unix environment for the system single tablet!

Many people will be wondering if games "Nes", "SNES" or "Game Boy" the tablet will not have these games, educational games only! #Tablet

And of course it will come with the latest Android 2.2 Froyo! It has the latest 800MHz processor and an amazing Adreno 200 GPU! Oh yeah and you can't run shit on it since it runs a locked down Nintendo custom skin like Kindle. And lat but not least it costs 600 fucking dollars.

This does not surprise me, I predicted this when I heard that the 2ds used the one screen. I told a friend that the next logical step would be a tablet with N's games to compete with those [tablets] already on the market, in spite of the idea that Nintendo likes to be a big fish in a small ocean, regarding doing their own thing with dated tech.. ie using established tech in new ways...

I think you're overestimating everything. It will run Android 1.6 Cupcake, skinned to remove 90% of the functionality. No root, locked bootloader, no settings, no task manager, no Google Play, no installing APKs, and not even a lock screen. The UI will be exactly the same as the 3DS. The screen will be 240 by 400 resolution, TN panel. 400 MHz ARM11 processor, single-core, Adreno 130 GPU, 256 MB of RAM. Resistive touchscreen. $200.

...wat?

Okay, so Nintendo failed in tapping into the "core" audience so now... they're trying to steal customers from Leapster? :tpi:

Funnies aside, this is pretty damn cool and definitely something I'd like to own - it's a tablet, it's from Nintendo and if it'll have physical controls, great - I just hope the specs won't be too underwhelming. I'm not expecting much since it's an educational device, but I hope it'll at least match the average "chinese tablet" in performance. Kind of worried about the whole "testing Android, but ultimately wants to make their own OS" part of the tweets, here's for hoping they stick with Android instead.

Aaaaaaaand it begins.

The big gaming companies have seen where the big bucks are nowadays. TABLETS!

Brace yourselves boys...the android fever is coming.

In no time we shall have Nintendo's Wiiblet, Sony's Tabletation and Microsoft's X-bablet 360 :toot:

And who knows? Maybe Sega will return to the market and release the long awaited new gaming system: The Dreamblet 2. (Sonic & Droids video-game included).

I'm going to go have a smoke and think about the good old times, when gaming had f***** buttons.

That is all.

I don't know about tablets but Sony is already releasing games targeting those who don't have PlayStation systems. I think their latest mobile game was a Knack puzzle game. (released only on iOS and not Android...)
