ya i dont think apple has a main "console"
all their non computer devices are portable and they do better than sony
microsoft isnt too well either with zune
nintendo does awesome with handhelds but the intended audience is not liking the consoles much anymore

It's easier to play on a handheld than get a tv remote, change channel, switch on console, grab controller, sit down, and play.
That's why I play handhelds more.

How is standing up, reaching into your pocket, sitting down, flipping up the screen, flicking the switch and play any easier?

For me it's definitely the gameplay that makes the wii better for me. I still play medal of honour: heroes 2 regulary because 1. I'm pretty good at it (K:D = 2:1 on a bad match, 20+:1 on a good match) and I love the controls, levels and the general feel to it, so much it justifies me standing up for an hour infront of a window making a jackass of myself

Stopped reading there.

The Wii is newest console this generation. Fact.

Edit:

QUOTE(TheDarkSeed @ Feb 3 2011, 03:38 AM) give it atleast 2 years, the Nintendo DS came out in 2005.
I'm not sure about all regions, but the Nintendo DS came out in 2004 for the US. It was out in Japan before the US if I remember correctly.

But I agree, wait another year (Or maybe E3) until anything real is said about a new Nintendo console.

Nintendo DS: 2004 - 2010 (Launch to announcement of new handheld). Six years.
Sony PSP: 2005 - 2011 (Launch to announcement of new handheld). Six years.
Xbox 360/PS3/Wii: 2006 - 2012 (Launch of 360 to estimate of announcement).

By following past trends, none of the next generation consoles should have been announced yet. (Handheld cycles and consoles are probably different, but not to get into too much detail).

This is ridiculous, Nintendo doesn't even know how well the 3DS will do. If it fails and they're not planning on a console, then they're screwed.
Plus the console market is huge, and as far as I know, the Wii is still the most popular console of its generation.

I think that they may make more handhelds, though I don't think they will stop making home consoles.

The wii killed in sales.....

And even though Nintendo's fans love them...and Nintendo loves its fans.....Nintendo is a company and they are ultimately in it to make money (which the wii did)

people are disappointed that the wii is not hd like the others
and thats what i mean
people dont expect hd graphics on a handheld due to limits
a console has not limit except price
that is, until next gen handhelds are released such as ngp and 3ds
there is no gameplay update to convince people to buy a new console and that is what nintendo lives on. it lives on the never seen features such as motion back at wii launch and touch at ds launch and 3d in 3ds launch etc. no tech inovations have been found recently toi enhance gameplay so it may be awhile if never i think. more can be done to gameplay with a handheld than a console. touch, gyro, and more. 3d is not an option for console since 3d tvs are too expensive and it would not sell. what new feature could they add?

the main selling point of the ps3 was graphics and online play
3d wasnt even added till later in its life
i dont think everyone rushed to get 3d tvs for their ps3s nor bought them for that reason

The system release order is (from earliest to latest release):
Xbox 360 - 2005
PS3 - November 2006 in Japan and US, March 2007 elsewhere.
Wii - November/December 2006 everywhere that counts.
Depending where you sit in the world, Wii came out before PS3.
Either way, Sony said 2016 is new console, and Microsoft are following them saying kinnect is xbox720.
Nintendo never mentioned anything about their console's lifecycle, so 5/6 years is the norm for the next one. 2011/2

Are you 6?
If you were as old -

- as me you'd know NES, SNES, N64, and the gamecube were on-par or better technically than the competition.
Some of them even added those never seen features you're thinking of, but as an after-thought usually.

People still want to play games on the big screen without portables having video out then that another reason consoles sound still be made.

Nintendo never did video out and psp2 look like there not going to do video out either. Why, idk...

Plus you only can put so much stuff on a portable...

I think sony is not doing video out for NGP because perhaps then people will stop buying the ps3 if they can just hook up the system to tv, just a thought. Though I'm sure the resolution would not look as pristine on an hd tv. Or their just wanting an excuse to add a new feature for the inevitable re-design like how they added video out with the psp slim.

hmm... Could be a combination of both ideas.

Just pointing it out: The only people that are STILL disappointed that the Wii isn't HD, are the people who never understood the selling point, or purpose of the Wii.

Back in 2007, many people who bought an XBox360 or a PS3 didn't even know it was capable of HD, and many that did know weren't aware that they weren't using it.

It's different now over 3 years later, but by how much?

first, wii successor has not even been discussed and the wii is uber old
not even a hint. either ninty finally can keep secrets or there is no console.
second, 3d is best on a handheld and if ninty was moving in that direction, then they would only logically do it to a handheld system and give up on console
third, in japan, a large market is in handheld gaming as many there travel daily on subways etc and it is popular that way

also, ninty tends to use a grand new technology in their systems. i can not think of one that would enhance gameplay and just an improvement to graphics is a waste to them b/c think of the effort to attract a few more customers, not many and may even lose some to price
i think a console wont come for a while personally ... or until virtual reality becomes feasable for consumers

so what do you think? is the 3ds going to carry both of nintendos markets?

The 360 is older than the Wii and have no official discussion on it.
So you're wrong.

This is bullshit, didn't reggie say a few months ago that Nintendo wanted wii to sell 15 million more units before they start thinking about wii2...
wink.gif

Nintendo will not step away from the home console market.

Nintendo will not step away from the home console market.
2010-12-31 - 40.53 million wii's shipped in the US.
Only 5 million sales to go then.
