Press Release
Detachable Controllers Reinvent Gaming

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In an introductory video released today, Nintendo provided the first glimpse of its new home gaming system and revealed that it is called Nintendo Switch. In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.

At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you. The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment.

Gaming springs into action by removing detachable Joy-Con controllers from either side of Nintendo Switch. One player can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two players can each take one; or multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options. They can easily click back into place or be slipped into a Joy-Con Grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, if preferred, the gamer can select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con controllers. Furthermore, it is possible for numerous people to bring their Nintendo Switch systems together to enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition.

“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”

Developers can design their games supporting a variety of play styles, which gives gamers the freedom to choose an experience that best suits them. Some of the publishers, developers and middleware partners announcing support for Nintendo Switch are as follows:

Well we can all basically expect someone to make an exploit of this system to especially since it uses an SD card again. I really think that nintendo would've learned their lesson, with SD cards, by now but I guess not. I'm gonna buy the system still and hopefully they bring some good titles to the Switch.

Wrong

From IGN:

“We’re happy to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Nintendo on the trailer. While we are not confirming any specific titles at this time, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Nintendo and support of Nintendo Switch. We look forward to revealing specific details at a later date.” - 2K representative
Oh your correct as I overlooked Take Two. Anyway I hope it is NBA 2K since it is much better than Live

Apple is and always has been better and making someone elses idea better rather than creating new ones. They perfect other peoples ideas, rather than innovate. They just know how to button it up. This last Iphone was the smallest upgrade they have ever offered unless you wanted waterproofing, which is a big deal, but about two generations behind how fast they offered it compared to the competition.

Apple also while doing well in mobile has not innovated anywhere else in some time. Their computers are running multiple generations old Intel chips and haven't been updated forever. As a computer hardware guy they are far from cutting edge. And even if the rumors about them making some changes with the next lineup are true I still wont be sold because they haven't shown a consistent ability to upgrade anything but their phones. Even the tablets are getting ignored and don't even get started on the Ipods.

Outside of the a jailbroken IOS, I'm not a big fan Apple. However, it's their brand specifically that holds the most power over the industry. At least in the country where I live, iPhones outsell the combination of all Andriod based phones. In many other countries, Apple, as a single company owns 20-40% of the market, it is the single-most influential smartphone developing company in the world, and that makes it the standard at which other phones are compared. This isn't a monopoly though, because other companies are constantly working to compete with what's considered the standard. If it weren't for Apple popularizing features such as touch screens and their 'retina' display (higher resolution certainly wasn't invented by them, but it didn't become a major selling point until Apple pushed it.) these things might not exist in the same way today. I got a nice kick out of how many people jumped to get offended by my last post.

I agree on the computers. Apple is a phone company now.

Consider how long it took to get even basic hacking on the Wii U.. consider how the Switch will probably be even more secure.. unless a miracle happens it's going to take a while

That's like saying "oh this console has something I can write something on it. EXPLOIT TIME!". Like how Xbox and Playstion have USB ports but you don't see exploits for those. The Wii U isn't even fully exploited sooooo

Also, it isn't even confirmed if the Switch will have an SD slot yet (as far as I know), so that logic is even more wrong.

It's only now that I'm truly realizing that I'll be able to play Splatoon on the go, I had been hoping for a crappy lesser port to the 3DS, that I never stopped to consider something like this could happen instead.
Makes me wonder why Mario Maker portable is happening for 3ds, when they could just release it for Switch and not have to cut back so much on the game (unless they are planning to and they haven't said anything)

My guess would be that it has something to do with the Switch not having a touchscreen.

I think a lot of Wii U games are gonna see enhanced ports to the Switch: MK8, Splatoon, Super Smash, and I'm thinking Mario Maker as well.

Wait, it doesn't? That's news to me..
Someone said a while back, that since the Switch is supposed to let people play games either on their TV or on the console itself, Nintendo would have to omit a touchscreen, so it's very unlikely that it would have one.

The trailer confirmed some form of Splatoon, although I think the MK game shown is MK9.

Ah, that makes sense then.

Is there a source on that? Also I wonder if we'll be able to use both the TV and the handheld screen at the same time like the Wii U, Breath of the Wild will surely be more enjoyable with on the go inventory touch management like the Zelda HD remakes.

Or if not, if they would allow us to connect the Wii U gamepad to the system that'd be awesome.

I just realized, it would make no sense for the Switch to have a second screen deal like the GamePad (as in something different on one of the screens) because when it's in the TV dock you couldn't use that screen, but a touchscreen would make sense for a portable component. That wouldn't allow inventory touch management unfortunately ( :( ) but you could still use touch on the go. This is all conjecture though, I don't have any clue and I don't think anyone does.

No but IGN asked Nintendo a bunch of questions and they answered all of them except the touch screen one, and basically gave a we can't talk about that right now answer. Nothing in the video showed a touch screen though and considering it seems the consoles screen goes off when it is in the dock it would appear impossible to use the screen for touch features when it is docked and if that is the case what would be the point. Unless they let you pair a New 3DS or something to it for touchscreen? That would be a cool trick.
