Press Release
Detachable Controllers Reinvent Gaming

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In an introductory video released today, Nintendo provided the first glimpse of its new home gaming system and revealed that it is called Nintendo Switch. In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.

At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you. The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment.

Gaming springs into action by removing detachable Joy-Con controllers from either side of Nintendo Switch. One player can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two players can each take one; or multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options. They can easily click back into place or be slipped into a Joy-Con Grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, if preferred, the gamer can select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con controllers. Furthermore, it is possible for numerous people to bring their Nintendo Switch systems together to enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition.

“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”

Developers can design their games supporting a variety of play styles, which gives gamers the freedom to choose an experience that best suits them. Some of the publishers, developers and middleware partners announcing support for Nintendo Switch are as follows:

Ummm looks like Skyrim is NOT coming to the Switch...

Bethesda: "We're happy to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Nintendo on the video. While we are not confirming any specific titles at this time, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Nintendo and support of the Switch. We look forward to revealing specific games and details in the future," a spokesperson said.

Uh, why would Nintendo collaborate with Bethesda and show footage? For fun? You must be crazy, just because it isn't officially confirmed doesn't mean it isn't coming, sheesh.

Not officially confirmed != not coming at all

I don't even respond to insults like that because they're low-brow and say more about the person who throws them around than about me. Me having a preference says nothing about my intellect, so I see no reason to address it. If someone thinks that me liking one platform over another makes me stupid, they're the stupid one. Besides, both iOS and Android suck in my eyes, we haven't had a good mobile OS around since Windows CE/Windows Mobile (not to be confused with the abortion that is Windows Phone) and, to a lesser extent, Symbian. Just the fact that neither OS comes with a stock file explorer and you have to download additional apps just to use features that are f*cking obvious shows the poor state of the mobile industry in terms of operating systems. Android just coincidentally sucks less, and right now there is no superior alternative available.

Not that it matters.. but android has had one built in for quite a while. (located by going to: settings > storage > explore ) It may be overlooked, however it does in fact come stock with a built in file explorer.

Anyway, back on topic I really hope this thing gets a 2d metroid launch title. Man, I've been dying for a true 2d metroid. Other M was a huge disappointment to me.

They said "we are not confirming any specific titles at this time", not "there will be no titles".

Ok, so NX is revealed as Switch.

Couple things bother me here:

1.Despite the fact that it's running Nintendo software, what is so unique about this? Expensive tablets can already run beautiful looking games, plus instantly connect to an hdmi port and play on any hdmi enabled TV. Mini bluetooth controllers can be synced and function exactly the same. Now I get it, that Nintendo has solidified all this in a nice user friendly package; but it just feels so outdated. If it's all about the software, then fair enough, but Nintendo software at least to me, is rehashed same stuff over and over...

2. Now what happens when you drop your tablet/console... Oh no! You just broke your CONSOLE. Sure you can buy a case, but no case will fit in the TV dock, so that will sorta defeat the instant "switch" feature.

Overall I can see it's purpose, but I just think its not that exciting. How many people are really gonna lug around a tablet with 2 controllers...it wont fit in a pocket, so definitely need a bag... It just seems like its way too late into the market.

Well the console has a 6 inch screen. It isn't huge. My Nvidia Shield tablet is 8 inches. If you drop a 3DS or handheld you are in the same boat. I mean an Iphone of Google Pixel is like $700... So what happens when you drop that? Yeah OH CRAP!

The Shield like the Switch can switch modes for gaming on PC and handheld, however it takes forever. Like 2 or 3 minutes sometimes. I sometimes still have to miss with the resolution in gaming mode on the tv and it takes the same 2 or 3 minutes when I disconnect to reconfigure and go into tablet mode. It is far from seamless.

Also the other thing is, well it is Nintendo... Enough said.

Oh and the Samsung Galaxy Note phones are also 6 inches. So people are already lugging phones this size in their pockets. The iphone 7 Plus is 5.5 inches. This isn't that much bigger. Not sure what the fuss would be about.

I don't have that option, but to be fair, I'm also running 4.3, so I'm a good couple versions out of date. This must be what Tom was referring to. NOW WE NEED TO SHUT UP ABOUT PHONES BEFORE @Veho's WRATH DESTROYS US ALL!

It's likely Skyrim just isn't confirmed "now", I imagine it'll take a hell of a lot longer to port the game to the Switch assuming it's going to be using ARM instead of x86. I imagine it may see the remaster, just not for another year or so.
That's what I thought too. They have until March to make any binding announcements, and I'm sure they've had the devkit for a while now.

There's been leaked devkit specs floating around, and I believe the leak originated from GovanifY. ('cause that's what I had heard)

It could also end up being that they won't port Skyrim, but Elder Scrolls Online instead (I know, ZeniMax developed it, but Bethesda still published it).

Eww, no, just..ugh, I'd rather play Oblivion.

I still don't find them to be plausible.

Oh! Nintendo announced the Nintendo Switch! Let's check it out!

...

surprise-gifts-online.gif

Anyways here are my thoughts on it.

This is brilliant, because Nintendo made the perfect console for any player. People who like to play it on the TV get their fun, people who like to play it handheld get their fun, even people who like both get their fun. I seen some people say it's another gimmick but it really isn't, because the handheld part only let's you play the games on the go. It doesn't have anything to do with the gameplay, which is why i think this is going the be the most best console ever. Imagine Super Mario Maker on it. No need to make a whole other game for a handheld version. And also in the trailer there was a woman playing a Mario game that looked amazing. I think Nintendo understands we don't want gimmicks anymore and decided they would try to go to every demographic ever. I guess you could say...

people are gonna switch back to Nintendo...

Wait that joke was already used a thousand times?... Shet.
