Nintendo Switch Pro naming "leak" gets falsely reported

Word that an upgraded Nintendo Switch is in the works has been going around for quite some time. In 2019, The Wall Street Journal reported that Nintendo was working on an "enhanced" Switch version. In 2020, Taiwanese newspaper, United Daily News, and Bloomberg both reported that Nintendo plans "an upgraded model of its Switch" for a release in early 2021. More recently, in early January 2021, ScriesM speculated on some Switch Pro details from datamined information. So a lot is pointing into the direction that such a console might indeed be in the works and online video game outlets are combing the net for any new, juicy details.

The latest report about this cryptic Nintendo Switch Pro relates to its name. Several websites have said that the console's name has been rumored to be leaked following a tweet from a Brazilian reporter. The latter , going by the handle of PH Brazil (@phluttilippe) on the social media platform, responding to another tweet about the new Monster Hunter bundle for the Switch, said that "they wouldn't make such a bundle if better hardware were available. Now we have to wait and see if something happens in the next fiscal year" [editor note: this comes from a translation I obtained via Google Translate]. And he ended his reply by hinting at the better hardware as the "Super Switch".

This mention of the Super Switch was picked up by several online media, which thought that the Nintendo Switch Pro's name was finally revealed. Last year, another Twitter user, Tyler McVicker (@Tyler_McV), also used the "Super Switch" name and this second instance from PH Brazil seemed to confirm this naming as an insider news. However, after those reports went live, PH Brazil replied to at least two tweets (in Portuguese), saying that the "Super Switch" naming is actually how he wished the Switch Pro to be called.

Here, according to translation from Google Translates, PH Brazil writes that "Guys too emotional, man, hahaha. Super Switch is literally just what I wanted him to call it."

In a following tweet, he confirms that it is indeed how he wished the console to be named.

As per translation from Google Translates, PH Brazil here notes that "The guys complicate me, hahaha. I said in another tweet: this is just what I * want * the business to be called :(".

So while the naming of the rumored Switch Pro is still up in the air, how would you liked that console to be named? Do you think that an enhanced version of the Switch will even be released?

How about 'switch up'? Or 'switch to the next level'?
'switch even more battery life version'?

I know for a fact that it will be called Switch U
Yeah, I know that joke.

Reporter : I've heard a major Nintendo executive loudly proclaim the 'switch u' name! :D
Editor : switch u? That's kind of hard to believe. Are you sure?
Reported : absolutely. He suddenly shouted it out. Just like that. Well... It sounded kind of like that. More like 'switchoo' or something, but you know... Face masks, right?
Editor:... Okay? And in what context did he say it?
Reporter : Erm... He was reaching for a handkerchief directly afterward to clean his nose. Still... That's got to be the name! So we better report confirmation on the console as well. I bet it'll have like... More memory! And...
Editor : whoa, there. We ain't reporting it. That's a rumor at best!
Reporter : so? Even if it's denied, gbatemp will make a headline out of it. :D

I hope Nintendo calls it the Switch U so that all four people who were dumb enough to think the Wii U was an add-on for the Wii don't buy the new Switch.

that's the joke. That they'd name it genesis because that console was (and still is) a hit on brazil.

That's made up. Master Systems are still being sold by TecToy (BR Sega Partner) but Mega Drives are way out of circulation (but it got some love after the success of Nes mini). People here love their Xboxes and Playstations way too much to care about anything remotely old.

I'm from argentina and bootleg sega genesis were sold well into the late 2000s at least. I don't even know what kinda cartridge the new bootlegs run nowadays, if any at all now that it's all SDcard and emulators, but genesis outlived it's circulation way past the date on the tombstone, despite playstation being better and super cheap so that's a feat.

Last year I saw a Sega Genesis clone on sale was 2010.

So yeah is calculated Sega would have sold at least ten million more Sega Genesis without piracy.

that's why he said it should be called wii 2 (like playstation 2 is a different console than playstation) and not WII U (which sounds like "wii, U edition" as in "gameboy advance, SP edition" for example)

Except I'm saying it doesn't make sense to use the NES/SNES analogy. They were two different consoles, yet people had zero confusion that the "Super" version was an entirely new console. People also knew that the Gameboy Advance SP was just an upgraded GBA. The examples used kinda contradict each other is what I was saying. I don't believe the Wii U naming had anything to do with the Wii U's poor sales either. Every single commercial or advertisement I saw - it was very evident that it was not just an upgraded Wii because it wasn't advertised as being simply an updated Wii. Anyone who was confused about what it was is a moron. Just like anyone who buys a "Super Switch" thinking it's an entire new console would be a moron, when N isn't going to be advertising it as an entire new console, but rather as an upgraded Switch.
