It's the first Nintendo Switch firmware update of 2024. Made available as of today is system software version 18.0.0, marking a new milestone. According to the patch notes, not much is brought to the table in this update, which features a new timer option for auto-sleep, and Korean as a supported language for the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls video. Under the hood, however, it looks there there's some substance, as it has broken support for Atmosphere. SciresM says that it'll take a few days to get around to, but expect to see a new Atmosphere update that supports version 18.0.0 in the near future.

Ver. 18.0.0 (Released March 25, 2024)​

• Added “15 Minutes” as an option for “Auto-sleep when playing on TV” in Sleep Mode Settings.
• Added Korean as a supported language for “Nintendo Switch Parental Controls” introductory video.
  • When the console language is set to Korean, the video can be accessed from Settings > Parental Controls.
• General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience.

This is a major update, so Atmosphere will be broken until updated.

Fuck you Nintendo, I just spent an hour or two trying to figure out why my brand new Switch that I got today doesn't let me boot into emuNAND. Turns out it's because they released this update right this evening when I was setting this up. Now I must wait until sigpatches roll out.

Well next time it tells me to update just after I update the console like I did, I will not. I'm trying to think, is it possible to downgrade it? I can't run homebrew or anything without Atmosphere working right now and I'm VERY frustrated. I can't even run stock NAND when in hekate so I will have to turn off AutoRCM and mess with the games I legally purchased. And then I don't know if the efuses will be affected.

The only way to downgrade by now is if you have a NAND backup BEFORE the update, What you should have done inmediately you was able to run Hekate.

Yeah I did the NAND backup without realizing a new firmware update CAME OUT WHILE I WAS SETTING UP MY SWITCH. I'm furious. Why does my luck have to be so bad.

Oh well. I'm sure that Michael will update atmosphere soon enough and if sigpatches don't come out I can use daybreak to downgrade it.

yeah, please exercise patience because SCIRESM will start to work on the Atmosphère update until next week and can take another week to get a full working Atmosphère, and for new set of sigpatches can take 2 or more weeks because the ones working on they have DCMAs over they.

I gathered that information, but why did Daybreak let you downgrade 17.0.0 to 16.1.0? If sigpatches aren't ready by the update would you be able to downgrade?

yes, but for running Daybreak you need a working Atmosphère.

For anybody who hasn't heard about the recent news, the sigpatches repo has been taken down due to a harsh DMCA claim by Nintendo. For now, if you're willing to mod your Switch on the latest firmware, do NOT update until new patches are created.

I just downloaded them with no issues. I have sigpatches bookmarked.

Do not update. The chip still uses Atmosphere as the CFW on the software end

only that to enter the original system you must do it with the reboot option
