Nintendo registers "Super Mario 4"

I'd love an 2D Mario, not like NSMB but actual 2D and I hope the new 3DS game would be that. I reckon this is them covering their backs, for a lot of people Mario World is Mario 4 and to the Japanese too. Also have they trademarked "Super Mario Bros. 4" lately? Because I'm pretty sure it'll be called that and not just Mario 4.

Also a new Wario Land would be very welcome. I enjoyed Wario Land Shake Dimension but yeah it wasn't anywhere as good as the previous titles but still a lot better than Wario Master of Disguise & Wario World.

I remember seeing SMW being called "Super Mario Bros 4.:Super mario World"
I agree that this is definitely not a new game but just them grabbing the domain before others can
EDIT: Yeah SMW is SMB4, they just didn't put it in the title like they did the Jap version

Can't say I'd be interested in another 2D Mario game as much as another 3D one. I didn't think NSMB Wii was really any good.

i loved nsmb DS and Wii, so i'm always looking forward to a new mario game. though i'm hoping it'll finally have a difference in gameplay between characters (like US SMB2, SM64DS), should they have different playable characters that is

Exactly. The New Super Mario Bros. artstyle is just bland and uninspired, to be honest. I would prefer if they switch to a full-2D style instead of the 2.5D mix found in those games. In a perfect world, they would still be using sprites in the style of the old (S)NES/GBA games or at least a more inspired art-style (perhaps this or even this).

Also, Wario Master of Disguise wasn't bad. I enjoyed the game along with the whole touchscreen gimmick.

I hope this has something to do with the new 2D SMB coming to the 3DS. I would love to actually be able to fly the tanooki suit and not just glide down with it.
