Judging from the Batman screenshot, I don't think the system is broken at all - I think it's improved!

This low-res mush is in fact a well-known Nintendo strategy to use celshading on EVERYTHING, so this is pretty much Batman: Wind Waker Edition.

For all intents and purposes, the 3DS is last-gen specs-wise. The average smartphone kicks the 3DS's butt sore - it's like the console is handicapable, it does its job, which doesn't mean that it's not technologically-backwards.
