Sorry dude. Use your sky online without a private header and get banned.
Use it with your .3dz file and get banned.
You're not well informed
Don't care. I don't play online. You're right though, I've never heard of anyone getting banned with a private header (and a .3dz file has a header... so your post is still confusing. You should maybe specify .3dz using a public header?). Nor did anyone mention online play. The comment just seemed to suggest that it wouldn't work. It plays roms on any firmware. That much does work.

So what...should I continue searching on e-bay for un-updated second hand 3ds?
Not many new games are out, if you can wait for a week or two, we can probably get some solid feedback on this if its a viable purchase, if you haven't bought the blue button one, this should be a good start, considering they don't screw this up for us.

Has 10.3 support.

oh wait

it doesnt
Okay, let's see here.

PROS OF THE SKY:
>Has 10.3 support
>Has a cute little button on it? (it has two on the latest version - very important. Two cute little buttons.)

CONS OF THE SKY:
>Can't play unmodified ROMs
>Needs private headers to play online
>.cia only games are unplayable on the thing
>No emunand
>No NAND backup/restore

GATEWAY/CFW PROS
>Emunand support
>Dynamic recompilation support
>.cia installation - far better than .3ds due to the smaller size.
>Online play using the console's ID, meaning no ding dong bannu
>Supports undubs, fan translations, VC injects, etcetera
>GBA Support
>DSIware support
>Can back up NAND/Restore NAND if necessary
>Allows you to dump games

GATEWAY CONS
>Uh. Costs money?
>9.2 and below only.

>CFW CONS
>9.2 and below only, pretty much.

I'm not even a Gateway user (CFW master race), but the GW is definitely the better card of the two - if only for the fact that it's being actively updated without the need to buy additional hardware.
I'm sorry you updated past 9.2 - but GW and CFW are objectively the superior options here.

You're probably better off grabbing a new 2DS or Old3DS from a local game store.
if sky+ includes all fw from older sky, then region lock will still be a feature.

as soon as someone can do a test. i hope these can be cleared out.
- run modified rom? (need a way to play english patched mhx because hans still doesn't work)
- independent regionfree?
- compatibilty with homebrew = play .3dsx from sky+ or = can be used alongside homebrew, like as always?
- 3dsware (eshop only titles) support?
i need to confirm on this (especially 1st question) before suggesting this fc my friends (need mhx hunting buddies)
1. Pretty sure Sky3DS+ can't run modified roms. However, you can most likely use HANS for romhacks.
2. Most likely not. Homebrew is the only way to go for regionfree.
3. Cubic Ninja + *hax2.5
4. Yeah, that's most likely not possible, either.

- Unless they found a way around sig checks above 9.3, not a chance.
- Doubt it, would require you to modify the roms to change their region, breaking its signature, or modify the 3DS's home menu itself to ignore region lock, which is currently not possible.
- Alongside homebrew, as always. The .3dsx format isn't really supported outside of Ninjhax.
- Given the Sky only supports .3ds roms, that won't happen. eShop-only games can only come as .cia. I heard it was possible to convert .cia to .3ds, but that wouldn't give you a valid .3ds rom that Sky can use (it wouldn't have valid signatures, so you wouldn't be able to play it.)

Orange button??! Orange button?? I distinctly bet it would be a green or purple button.

You sound a bit salty. I meant in terms of features and other things. The only thing Sky3DS has over Gateway/CFW is being able to work on firmwares 9.3+.

lol, idc - I've got an o3ds with cfw and sky3ds for my n3ds.
GW is pretty much obsolete now, as the only thing it offers over any standard cfw install is roms on a flashcart... which is almost pointless when you can just install cia's to your emunand.

Salty? Maybe if I'd wasted money on GW... not for buying a Sky3ds though.

Main thing is probably no out of region dlc/game updates without alternate means as far as CFW goes.

This still is daylight robbery though. You'd think they'd decrease the price to increase the number of buyers. Keeping it at the same price range is just promoting ignorance, another company needs to step up and do their job at an affordable rate.

In the end its just the same old Sky3DS, but countering the new system. You still can't update alternate region games, and you still won't be able to get DLC packs installed. Id say the only innovative feature so far in this release, was the forward and backward option and maybe the USB. This was something I definitely needed for my giant arsenal of games.

Wonder if they ever fixed that issue were you had to cycle through your games in order for your last save to be properly written. They also mention connecting the SKY3DS+ directly to the USB of your PC with some included cable. Not sure if the cable plugs into the card somehow or if it's just a generic 3DS-to-USB dongle.

"3.The LED red light will turn on for 10 seconds, then turn to the green light and keep flashing for
10 seconds, once the light turn off it means the sky3DS+ has been updated successfully. Alert:
Never unplug the USB cable while the green light keep flashing, it might damage your sky3DS+ card! "

Judging from their site, they only found a solution to make a bigger problem a more flashy bigger problem.

on the bright side we now have a series of blinking lights for non monochromatic people.

10/10 innovation.

I just want to thank god for my 4.5 o3ds xl. It may be pink, but custom firmware is a gajillion times better than sky3ds. The fact that they charge full price for their revisions without offering some kind of trade in system is nothing short of ridiculous.

We live in a world where this is now common practice... I blame Apple

Don't deal with flash cart scammers or low quality custom firmwares - get the Sanic 3DS flashcart and get free* updates until the year 2069!

*Free, as in free. Yes. Free. No joking. Even the fine text agrees - it is free.

Hows about implementing a some form of programming port instead of making everyone pay another 100 dollars when the next AP method comes out.

The proprietor of Sky Team will have to sell their Bentley if that happens, what a shame!

actually it should have been yellow. because the primary colour are red blue and yellow. red and blue is already used
AP bypass-onichan is color blind, legends say after 4 months of emerging from his hikikomori life, the color yellow was too much for his eyes. And thus orange was chosen.
