hope you like it

hmmm, for those of you who don't already know
but in the new super mario bros, blocks that contain items such as mushrooms, fire flowers, stars, etc. don't normally lay ontop of another block
but in the original brothers game (the great wonderous game without groundpound ability) such blocks were above regular smashable blocks
anyways, the point i'm getting at is, you'll find blocks such as the block (containing a star) in the area 1-2 that is directly above another block, if you don't destroy the block directly below it and you groundpound the block with the star, the star will appear and bounce around, but you can't touch it, it'll pass through you
cuz of the glitch from it appearing where another object is as you break the block (the block directly below)
hope you all keep this in mind as you play retro mario bros, it'll appear quite a bit throughout the game as the original never had the groundpound ability ^^

The star is in the upper right brick block of the 'wave' area where the two Green Koopa Troopers are, which is about 20% through the level.

I think I found another bug... I'm trying to test it again to see if it wasn't just a one-time-thing.
On 1-3, the red winged bonus block didn't show in the level.
[update]: Yeah... the Bonus block will not appear on 1-3. However, if you don't get the blocks they will fly to a new level... that wasn't a bug.

Excellent mod, Just what I've been waiting for.

I got bored, so I made these, use em if you like, if not, don't...

I can't wait for the next update.

Just checked out the videos, great job! The final product should be amazing based on what we've seen so far.

I just tried out the demo of this and I'm impressed. Although I did use the warp pipes in level 2 and got a black screen. I guess he can't warp to a world that doesn't exist

The "hidden" warp pipes work for me...
They don't warp you to different worlds (which still exist since it's just modification of NSMB to have Original levels), they just take you to a different exit and give you a different path.

Sorry, but in the demo release, I accidentally broke the two pipes on the right (at least, I think I did...). The pipe on the left works fine though (all of these are the warp-zone pipes)

The two on the right should put you back to the beginning of the underground section.

EDIT: I am not going to do warp pipe cannons, because they would be inaccurate.

i was about to say something about the canons and the physics of this game compared to the original
btw, the three pipes work for me
tested all of em
they all take me to the end of the level of course, just to unlock the mushroom house
so far, the three have equal use until the game is further built

It will stay that way for now...

If there is anyone that believes that they can be of valuable use to this project, speak up!, don't be silent! How else will I know about you?

(BTW, I put in the new 16-color logo and it works great!)

Make sure you have a CLEAN NON-TRIMMED ROM (I got mine from [CENSORED], I do have a legal copy of the game)

Also, you need Windows.

xDelta is the only one I could find that supported two different file sizes. (notice that after you patch the game, it's only like 20MB or so, instead of 32.00MB)

Do you think that you could change the gamecode and title, so that it shows as something other than new mario bros. in cart menus?
If the name in the header gets changed to "New Retro Mario Bros." it should change the Game ID.
Also, I believe that changing the icon will do the same as well.

There's a program for that,it's called romer.
You can even edit the icon with it.
