First... who said it only loads at 3x? it's a modchip... it'll run any burnt disc as a real... so 6x...

Second... I could have sworn I hear about this somewhere...
If there isnt an original Wii game inside the drive locks up at 3X. There is nothing you can do about it unless you patch it and you can't patch it through the ribon cable.

Btw. I think it's a myth that Wiikey only runs backups at 3x. You would notice the difference in load time and they were exactly the same after I switched to YAOSM.

It is a sort of modchip, it acts differently though. It does not interact directly with the security chip on the drives, it may not interact with it at all, seeing that this works on D2Nothing.
This works by interfering with the signal sent from the dvd drive to the wii.

QUOTE(henkp @ Jan 15 2009, 09:30 PM) I have my YAOSM set to 3x to reduce the noise, and have never experienced any stuttering video or something like that. The whole 3x-story is based the fact that the early backup-loaders were not as advanced coded as they are now, causing longer load-times. The fact that it loads at 3x is barely (or not at all?) noticeable. If it acts as a real mod-chip, it will have 'perfect' code, thus have barely (or not at all) noticeable slowdown.

I will say this again.
Get a CoD:WaW running at 3x, and at 6x. You WILL see a difference.
Not only the loading times, but since the disc is constantly being read, some data reading isn't done properly, such as some audio. It also takes quite some time for textures to load on 3x.

On second thought, you may be right on that one. I remember playing scarface (which is not my favorite game, thus i didn't remember it untill you mentioned the exact problem that arises), which is free-roaming (thus constantly loads, in this case) and it occasionally happened my textures were crappy/missing. I even managed to fall through the ground once!

From now on, my statement will be: On MOST games it's barely noticeable.

djdynamite123, I sit right besides my wii (my wii is on the same height as my ears), so I hear the disc spinning in the drive. When set to 3x, it runs nice 'n quiet, so my midnight-gaming-sounds can be nice 'n quiet too. On 6x my wii sounds like my xbox360 from across the room (and no, I don't use crappy discs, I learned my lesson on that one with 2 fried gamecube-lasers

)

Yep, I don't mind on most games, as most games have very fast loading screens, so waiting twice as long for a 2 second loading screen is fine.

Hey, sorry, but what's the difference with the Argon2 or Wasabi Zero chips, which are also solderless and cost 25€ less !

In other words, what is the best solderless chip that works with all wii versions ?

drivekey doesn't "sit" on top of the drivechipset, it's installed between drive and wii-motherboard with a ribboncable. that means it works with d3 (singlechip drivechip) and epoxied d2e drives. did you even read the first post or the infos given on the website?

so what? it's still between 70 and 80 US$ everywhere else. in my opinion still a ripoff. i know the price for retailers is very high too, so i don't want to offend them.
