You need a game + gamecube memorycard + an exploited Wii (HBC installed) to install the exploits to the memory card.
I've explained it in the OP perfectly.

An SD Gecko accepts SD cards for loading homebrew code off.

nice to see the old cube get some love, can we run backups with these exploits?

Yes you can with Swiss.

It is possible to use an AR Disc to load up homebrew on a GCN (and inject the explotaible saves to the memcard) but via PC, I wouldn't know.
Maybe @FIX94 knows?
I've never heard of any piece of hardware which can access memory cards directly on a pc. If you manage to find one though then sure, its probably easly doable since you can inject saves into raw memory card images with dolphin.

That moment when you realize you still have all those games (minus the 007 one) but not a compatible Wii or similar device to install the files into the memory card .-.

So you did! And I have all of those things except an SD Gecko.

What sort of things can you do without a Gecko? I imagine a memory card holds very little data.

From what I can tell from a cursory Internet search, the only available Geckos are Chinese knock offs on eBay, although they are quite cheap. And it seems they hold max 2gb SDs, right? So that's enough for basically one back up if you want to use it for that.

as sd gecko is literally just forwarding the sd pins to the memory card pins so there is no such things as a size limit as long as the software accessing it supports it.

Really cool! Do you think that it's possible to make your own SD Gecko out of a GameCube memory card and MicroSD adapter?
This tutorial shows how to make one out of an SD adapter, but I have a ton of MicroSD adapters laying around that I don't mind using.

As long as the wiring matches up, I don't see why not. Whether it's worth the effort is debatable.
Cheapo Chinese SD Geckos can cost under $4 including postage...

I don't know the first thing about GC hacking. :( I assume you need some hardware since there's no SD card or USB port or Internet connection.
If you go to the source and read about the exploit, you'll see that it's rather simple if you have a GC memory card and a modded Wii.

@FIX94 This is either going to be a really dumb or really good question:
Is there any way that you can look into the Wii U versions of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess and see if they are at all exploitable? I doubt Nintendo would be dumb enough to leave the same exploit in TP, but since they may not have known about the WW version it might be worth a try...

It's not even possible to copy a save and access it outside of a WiiU, unless the USB storage gets decrypted :P

True, but Caffiine could (in theory) be used to poke around in the meantime, maybe even create an alternate and more stable/permanent exploit that could be run post-webkit

It's highly unlikely, considering that we cannot use caffiine in userland.

but if it turns out that a crafted save could work on current versions (5.3.2/5.4.0), maybe.
I still highly doubt it though. Only time will tell I guess :P

You do need to use the gamedisc everytime you want to boot homebrew right? (not like freemcboot on ps2)
