I did note that the ace3ds x tends to stick a little in the slot, and it's probably due to the switch. but i don't see how a hole in the back can destroy anything.

You should think about the kernel and r4i gold is officially supported by wood not modified wood.
Fore senior users of flashcard, when coming to updating, r4i gold is much better than ace.
For old uers of ace, they even can not access the latest system.
Therefore, do not recommend it to others here.

DS flashcarts will not be patched.
I have both cards and they're mostly the same.

Yes, they indeed made older cards that could't be updated.
They are far from the only team that has done so.

This latest card is supposedly possible to update the firmware, even though it will most likely never need it.

Only r4ids.cn carts have wood 1.64, but from a game compatibility standpoint, 1.62 already seems to support everything.

There is something to be said for officially supported wood, and the better chip in the card.

3DS-FLASHCARD site can send you R4i gold 3ds rts version from USA and after a week, they can also ship the new R4i gold 3ds plus from U.S too. By the way, they also have a European warehouse which is located in FR.

If you want to play ds games, you need to download the latest wood from the official website www.r4ids.cn
If you just want to play 3ds games , just open the shell and push the switch to "N".

@tranfeer, was there ever a rev8 r4iGold actually sold in the wild?

We've got all known versions of the card working with ntrboot now, but I've never seen the rev8 anywhere except for here.
