My old laptop is a touchsmart tx2 1375dx. It crashes a lot with errors like memory management, no more stack irp locations etc.
Is that caused by the laptop overheating I've seen it go 90+ Celsius before or is that permanent damage from the heat?
I figured that I would get something like this to reduce the temperature if it would solve the crashing.

Also ran memtest on the ram and its fine.

As for the new laptop I was thinking of getting this http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-1215B-PU17-BK-1...7606&sr=1-5
It has usb 3.0, good battery life, very portable, and hdmi. I also don't think it will heat up much.
Anyone have a better suggestion for a laptop? I'd like to keep it in that price range but I can go over.

about your old laptop:
I would first try to clean the heatsink before buying anything else, maybe put some new thermal paste and look if the fan is still functioning.

about the new laptop:
if you like the 12 inches form factor it's your choice, but you can get the same spec for a little bit cheaper on a full size(15.6) laptop ( 4gb ram + optical drive)
Asus X53u-xr2:
http://www.amazon.com/Asus-X53UXR2-X53U-XR...837&sr=1-13.
(there's an error in the description, it says it comes with a hd 4250, but it comes with a hd 6310)

if you can go up to 480$, you can get yourself a core i3 laptop:
ASUS A53E-XA1
http://www.amazon.com/A53E-XA1-15-6-Inch-V...2760&sr=1-7
