nah, unless you know japanese, you can't play it... because some cards have effects on others and you could never corectly get around this unless you memorized the effects of the english versions of the cards
FAQs are our friends. Most of em are the same from DM7, so just go to GamefAQ's FAQ on it and look around. That's what I did. BTW: Just play for atelast 10 minutes and you'll figure it out...
DM7 was a terrible game, the gameplay ressembles nothing like the TCG. It might be that I'm too used to playing the R/L TCG but compared to DM6 EX2 the YGO RPGs are really bad...
The major gripe I have with DM7 was the dang element system... a LVL8 light element that attacks a LVL1 black element automatically loses... the no control over when your traps can be activated pissed me off too... I was so excited when I heard about a YGO RPG too... the story mode was fine but it was the god-awful gameplay that discouraged me...
I just want to ask the people who are excited about this game the following:
What do you expect from this game in terms of the dueling system?
I've notice that the tone of this post might seem a bit standoffish.. sorry about that
Don't mean to rant but I want to add one more thing... A LOT of card effects were changed/non-existant in DM7. Here's one example...
This one is probably one of the more faithful ones.
DM7:
Death Vorstagulf-Destroy one monster on your opponent's side of the field and do 500 lp damage to him/her
Real Life TCG:
When this monster destroys one of your opponent's monsters in battle deal 500 lp damage to him/her. Whenever a magic card is played increase this card's atk power by 300 until the end of the turn.
See the problem/difference?
The one that I'm annoyed with is that being the only YGO game at the time to have cards from the most recent sets almost all their effects were neglected... my poor injection angel lily and amazoness swordswoman are just crappy normal monsters ;.;
