would a program using /dev/flash to extract the nand chip contents be detectable as well?
It should work on an unmodded wii and launched from the letterbomb I assume?
I thought crediars dumper worked like that. My mistake.
I did some more research and noticed that most programs work differently (using isfs).

Want me to use ohneswazenegger on the old one with 4.3 to just see if that produces the same result? i'll try it thursday as i won't be home tomorrow.
No. First try using v0.1.

Didn't work. Going to try 4.3U nand on other wii and see where that gets me.
Why don't you try making a LetterBomb exploit for your old Wii and see if it still works on your old Wii?

Looks like this is exactly what he will try now. His old wii probably wasn't on 4.3U yet.
He eventually wants to use ohneswanzenegger to create the 4.3U nand for that wii to be as close to a virgin situation as possible.

So, basically, the only difference from a software point of view would be the boot2.

I tried bannerbomb on the old wii like Joostin said in IRC, and that worked, as in opened bootmii.
I did ohneswanzenegger 4.3U letterbomb and it worked, opened bootmii.
Anything else you want me to try?

So, basically, on your old wii, the method of launching letterbomb -> casper -> bootmii works.
On your new wii it's more like letterbomb -> casper -> ?? returning to system menu?

The only thing that should change between the old and new wii setup is the letterbomb private folder on the sd card?

I had hoped giantpune would have jumped in already. I will see if I can get this to his attention.

Yes, it returns to system menu after casper. The onlything that has changed between them was the private folder, that is correct.

I am unsure, but maybe JoostinOnline can confirm. Aren't the new wii's having a boot2 v5 instead of boot2 v4?

Maybe there are other differences in the nand, but at this moment, I have no idea how you could backup it without modding your wii.

Yes. Besides the hardware differences, there are several new IOS's, as well as a new version of boot2.

The only IOS I checked was 58, but it was exactly the same as the old version except for the version number. It took forever since I compared the extracted files with a hex editor (there is probably a faster way), so I didn't feel like testing the rest. Maybe it has something to do with his version of IOS53 (which is v5919). I'll ask pune about it later and maybe he can confirm.
