So I bought a cheap 3DS XL as I needed the NTSC motherboard from it. The seller didn't say it was running CFW, but said "the console will play UK games when the SD card is inserted" so I assumed as much, but figured removing the CFW would be pretty straightforward, having done it before. However, the SD card appears to be missing some necessary files (pic below) for full functionality. Although the 3DS does boot (when the SD card is present) and is region free, there are no third party apps installed, the console has been updated to Sys 11.5 and I cannot access Luma payloads on boot, so I can't think of any way of cleaning it up.

I've backed up the original contents of the SD card and the NAND with a hardmod, so I can mess about with it while trying to find a solution, if you've any suggestions....

Edit: So far I've tried brute forcing B9S over whatever the existing CFW by either browser, soundhax or hardmod method, but none of them work. Soundhax won't because there's no otherapp for 11.5, browser will go to the page but won't boot into B9SInstaller and the hardmod method gives me a blue screen.

I've tried playing around with the SD card file structure, but whatever I'd tried so far, I haven't been able to boot into Luma payloads.

To remove B9S from a Nintendo 3DS console, first you need to use Corbenik and enter its menu and switch FIRM protection. After that, do a system update.

However, if the system is at the latest version, I would suggest asking @SciresM about removing B9S from FIRM0 and FIRM1 partitions. I'm sure he'll be able to help you out.

First of all, you're 100 percent sure this console is running b9s and not a9lh? What does it say when holding select while booting up? Make sure if it's a9lh to use .bin payloads and to use .firm payloads for b9s respectively. Also, the payloads were put in luma/payloads correct? And you tried holding start on bootup to launch them?

Boot.firm pretty much says it all.

Not sure what I did differently, but I managed to boot to the GodMode payload now, so hopefully from this point it should be pretty straight forward.

More than likely, the Boot.firm file that was already on the SD card was either corrupt or designed for an older version of B9S.

i used to go out to the recycling center every couple weeks and look at the crts and other electronics people would drop off. Usually screens were broken or severely scratched from being tossed around. Did find a good one here and there, but never anything like a 1080i widescreen crt.

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
