Hacking need some help with project m running off my external hdd

i know im late to the party but i decided i wanted to run project m on my wii i dont have a 2-4 gb micro sd card and i wanted to run the latest community project build from their github, anyone want to help me get it running, i also have the original brawl disc i have the homebrew on my hdd but when i go to play it just crashes and goes to the wii menu

I would also like to know if it's possible to run Project M 3.6 (vanilla is fine) off of USB, without the Brawl disc. The only ISO buildrs I've seen are for the beta or incomplete builds (eg WarioWare instead of the new stage)
