Gaming Need some help on my website

So yea I have to make a website for school, and I wanted to clean it a bit up, so I decided to put all the stuff of 1 subject in 1 folder, like this:
(root)/folder/page.html
But on all of my pages, I made a link back to homepage, which is in the root.

My question, how do I make the link to homepage, link to the homepage.html in the root of the website?
I tried google and it answered that I had to use / to make a link look in the root for the html file, but that didn't do it for me.

Anyone has an idea?
