I was playing Kingdom Heart 358/2 on my Acekard 2i with the newest version of Akaio. The game had run fine before as I had been playing the game pretty much every day. Before the full touchscreen glitch actually occurred, there was a minor glitch in a cutscene where the motion was restarted in the middle of a text, but I thought maybe I'd just have to put in a fresh copy of the game. About a minute later, I used the touch screen to move the camera but then the camera kept on moving as if I was still touching the touch screen after I let off on it. I thought it was just an issue with the game so I turned it off. When I turned it back on, however, the touch screen still acted like it was permanently being touched as the warning screen in the beginning just went to the main menu. I was trying to touch certain icons but they didn't register very well and I have to tap it several times without any promise of it actually working. One thing though is that the buttons work just fine so i can just use the control pad to move around. I tried recalibrating the ds but it just wouldn't register my touches. Also, whenever I try to open my Acekard, the menu jumps around every few seconds. Thanks for any help I can get on the issue, I use my ds a lot and this kinda sucked for me.

Well we dont really have a hardware section anymore so this should be ok.

So according to your description theres a chance you need to replace the touch screen digitalizer or the touch screen its self. Kinda sounds like your ds screen bit the dust.

Um just a though, check to see if there is anything stuck like between the screen and the corners of the plastic of the DS.

Seems like your touch screen is dead. Same thing happened to my brother's. You'll need to get a new one and replace it yourself, or send it to Ninty if it's still under warranty (or if you're willing to spend a ton of money on it).

Well after ignoring it for a few days, it turns out it fixed itself! I was so relieved... thank you guys for your input though, and I think Bortz might have been onto something with something stuck in between the screen. I was thinking about that before too but the problem was gone by then. The only that really struck me as od was how the area being registered as being touched was sort of causing my ds screen to jump around. Anyways, thanks for your input!

Its cool.
I remembered that once my friend had a grain of sand or something very small stuck in the corner and his touch screen freaked out. he got his stylus and pressed down on the screen and it shot out and it worked fine again.

I went back to the old port I had previously running as it's the only one which was up to complete with sound, music, controls etc.

@nitr8, How long have you worked on this port, just this year?
  • nitr8 @ nitr8:
...and I'm currently playing it - no crash so far. If I could, I'd live-stream
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Or play through it until you encounter a bug or so.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
You should maybe hire beta/alpha testers to playtest your game while you continue to update the port, but that's up to you.

I have been working on BLOOD for the Wii for a few weeks but that was 2 years ago until I noticed that it would randomly crash out of a sudden at some point and I never managed to find the origin of the bug.

@nitr8, Something like an USB Gecko would be extremely helpful for debugging. Not sure if there might be an IDA plugin which can do this wirelessly.
  • nitr8 @ nitr8:
That also was the reason why I never released it to the public. Which btw. is a shame because the game is basically "complete" and ready for release
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@nitr8, If you consider open-sourcing this, then I'm sure somebody could point out the bugs for you in the repository, such as walking through step-by-step on what it's doing.

I have 2 USB Gecko's. I'm using one for debug printout messages while I use the second one for realtime debugging within Eclipse where I make changes to the code

@nitr8, Ah good, having two is always handy.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Not sure why you'd want to, but it's a good thing at least.
  • nitr8 @ nitr8:
You need two if you want realtime-debugging AND debug printout at the same time. The problem is that GDB (the GNU debugger) needs a connection over a serial port while the other one also needs a connection over a serial port. You cannot send debugging commands and printout messages over the same port. It just wouldn't work. I've tested this.

I should probably see if I can run this natively on a PC using the original commits where I pulled the code from. Basically the repository is the same but the commits were different when it comes to the main game code and the engine overlay...

BTW: I saw you mentioned me in the link to the ROTT wall bug where a moving wall exits the game map.

  • nitr8 @ nitr8:
The original developers put an image into the code which would be shown once this bug happens. It's the one you see at the end of the video and it's also the same image I'm using as an avatar.

Anyway, I hope BLOOD will finally make it's way onto the Wii. I ported DOOM, HERETIC, HEXEN, STRIFE, ROTT and HEXEN II before years ago. I simply cannot imagine that it's too hard to get the game
    running stable.

If I just had the chance to live-stream the running game on the Wii...
