My Dell Inspiron 17R got error 2000-0124 after updating to 8.1 for some reason, after the dell log it says "preparing automatic repair" a black screen appears and nothing happens. I read some stuff and it says i have to replace the hardrive, but replacing the hard drive will erase everything i had. Is there a way to work around this without losing all my things.

"what do i use to back up my data"
>_<
Learn it, eventually just copy to a external hard drive every week and put it somewhere safe.
But never trust your computer with a single copy of your data, Even we in the DPRK don't.

And the best way out right now would be to use that thing from newegg, connect your internal hard drive to it and hook it up to another computer. AND backup your data

This is still in the BIOS screen right? It might not have USB slots loaded if thats how you are trying to back up your data.
