Do you think N64 Emulation will be a reality on 3DS

Mhm, let's see how the N64-Emu does on the Wii after some years...oh, right, still not really good perfect (no offense at the Dev-Team, they're doing an awesome job, and achieved many things already. Kudos to them

). Now, one thing we know for shure is that the 3DS will be weaker than the Wii...do the math.

IF it gets hacked, and IF it is fast enough, it will still take time. Muuuuch time. And did you notice the big fat "IFs"?

EDIT: Erased good...perfect is the better word. It's still slow with some games, some have graphical Errors, Sound Issues, etc. My main point was how long it took until an N64-Emu works on the Wii. And I don't think that you could port Wii64 easely, so it will also take again much time.

What!? Not really good? I think it runs very well. you can play a lot of games at full speed and all the games I wanted to play work perfect. Look at the N64 emulator for the PSP. That's "not really good".

Nintendo 64 Virtual Console on the Wii is better then Nintendo 64 emulation on the Wii. What I'm saying is I don't care for emulation on the 3DS I just want some N64 Virtual Console, then maby it will run some full speed N64 games.

*will be enjoying fullspeed star fox on his pandora before you lay eyes on 3DS prototype graphics*

It's obvious that it CAN run N64 power games, but the question is will Nintendo make it play them? Almost definitely no.

They said a while back that the next handheld will do HD (Handheld HD and console HD is different apparently...), and be close to the power of the Gamecube.

(Handheld HD and console HD is different apparently...),No it's not, High-Definition is a video signal whose vertical component measures 720 lines or more, meaning an (XXX)x720 or higher resolution. Anything lower cannot be called high-definition (though some companies cheat and put the letters "HD" in the product's name to make people think something is HD when it's not).

They said the development environment is like that of a gamcube, not the power.

@Rydian-

The comment was from an interview with Iwata back in January. He didn't say HD, but rather that he wanted the next handheld system to have high resolution visuals. Which can mean anything, including just making the graphics themselves look better like most new systems. He mentions in the same interview that he wants motion sensing on the new handheld. It's fair to assume that he is giving some hints about 3DS, something anyways.

As for the 3DS, I said this earlier so I will just quote it.

Nintendo better do good, I'm gonna be kind of pissed off if I can't play Nintendo 64 games when the PSP can play PS1...
Ah, I missed this earlier...
The PSX and PSP run on the same processor architecture, so much less actual emulation is needed (API translation instead in many cases, which has barely any speed hit). The PSX is "MIPS R3000A" and the PSP is " MIPS R4000-based", so with much less effort, you can get basically an older program to run on a newer processor. Furthermore the PSX emulator for the PSP is developed by Sony, the have all the documentation for both systems and know what's in the games/systems and exactly how they work, so they're not doing a bunch of reverse-engineering and guesswork to make an emulator.

However, the N64's MIPS-based processor appears to be from a different branch, and is not official, it's fan-made.
You'll notice that the N64 emulator for the PSP is not doing nearly as well as the PSX emulation.

The Gameboy/DS line has been ARM-based, so if the main processor of the 3DS is as well (which it most likely will be in order to play DS games) it'll have to do full emulation of the N64, meaning that at best we can expect something like the VC on the Wii, where official versions of games re-released run well because they're in a custom-emulator which doesn't run other games, and the fan-made "for all" emulator is just now becoming good... on the Wii.

So it'll be like that... if the 3DS is as powerful as the wii...

Soyeahno, I'm not expecting N64 VC on the 3DS unless nintendo does some BIG changes.

That's all fine, and I expect the 3DS to have a higher resolution, I just don't want any "HD" myths to spread, companies already pull enough bullshit with the phrase "HD" as it is.

I think there are plenty of people who would want PS2 on a handheld. But i think many of even our less intelligent gaming population can understand how impossible that would be on current consoles. There is only one PS2 emulator for PC, and it requires at least a 3ghz dual core processor (a good one too) along with a decent graphics card to get it running fairly. Even then, that's sometimes not enough. Best case scenario is a Core i7 clocked near 3.8ghz running in software mode to take full advantage of the power.

We're probably a good 10-15 years off before we see a handheld THAT powerful. Maybe i'm giving noobs too much credits, as i know some people don't understand the difference in power, but most people can understand it would be impossible to emulate PS2 on a system with a power similar to Gamecube or Wii. N64 is more understandable due to what has been accomplished on PSP.

I wish people would stop bring up the psp can emulate the n64. the only reason it can is because there processors are the same family. where as the DS uses a totally different type of proc. So even if the 3ds is gamecube powerfully it might not be able to emulate the n64. People can't even emulate the PowerPC fully on quad core computer, (not the gamecube/wii ones, like apple ppc) though Nintendo could include special co-processors that would be designed to emulate the mips platform on ARM. Open up a gameboy player?? to run gameboy games on the Gamecube and in it is a arm processor from a gameboy advanced and other chips to allow hardware based emulation on the gamecube.

unless nintendo decides to change their ways and do serious consoles instead of:

fun games for little children old people, one eyes people, one handed people and even retarded people
come everyone can play

but sorry hardware sucks, who cares we still make our bucks

i doubt it...

dont get me wrong i do like the nds and its awesome but it could be so much better if it had some decent hardware~ hell mobile phones these days have better hardware than the ds

edit: i give up on fixing the spoiler...

Why improve the hardware when the games are already fun? Gaming isn't always about the graphics.
