No need of switch for hardmod.
When you switch on your console with micro USB cable SD modified + USB3.0 reader, the console bottom screen displays blue screen and you can dump or read your NAND.
When finished, just switch off the console (maintain Power button 8 seconds) then remove the cable and now console will boot as normal.

a switch for what? they're all just open wires when not plugged to your card reader? blue debug screen only shows up when you have connections closed. (and or hardware problems)

I'm guessing it is a switch for the micro sd since it is a pain to remove the backplate every time you want to transfer stuff.
Yeah, it was for his microSD. I think I'm ready to try this, now.

you need a n3ds compatible sd to usb adapter. check the guides w/c card readers are compatible. common card readers even the ones in your laptop built in won't be able to read the emmc of your 3ds.
