prob once an hour, but it seems to be random. Doesnt matter if theres a disc in or not, or whether its on standy or not. Sitting watching tv and it goes "whir whir whir" then goes back to sleep.

Is this normal?

Mine doesn't "whirl" for no reason - however, I do have some discs that make more noise than others (logo Star Wars comes to mind). I have never had it whirl when it's off.

Mine doesn't quite do that... but my blue light for the disc drive will come on randomly at night and just stay on. It glows bright then fades then glows then fades. It does this almost every other day. I wake up in the morning and there's this blue light guiding me. It's kind of annoying.

I do have WiiConnect24 on and it is modded...

EvanUnisil, the blue light is probably just WiiConnect24 doing its thing. I don't use it myself but I do know that it turns on the blue light for certain things like message notifications.

Word, the fan kicking in only happens if the wifi is turned on. This is to prevent the wifi unit in the wii getting hot & damaging other components.

I agree with the fact that leaving it on can damage the graphic card.

I know from experience...

Whenever I leave my wii on the Wii Menu, to go do something,

My TV displays a blue circle on the left side, and a yellow on the right.

It goes away when I turn the Wii off then on again,

It really sucks.
